thinking of lower my E60

just change my rims to Breyton 19' stagged. Looks bit odd as big gap on front and rear tyres, thinking of lowering by changing springs.
Scrolling around this forum, undertand there a Eibach and H&R springs available, is there are difference between them?
What about the height? Is is fix or you can choose the springs with different height?
I am quite particular if it will be too low and will hit on the bigger hump.
What you guys reckon the price and installation will be?
Thanks

Re: thinking of lower my E60

you can adjust the height if you buy height-adjustable coilovers. coilovers are more expensive than lowering springs though.

Re: thinking of lower my E60

Eibach and H&R has different spring rate, which mean that the hardness/comfort of your ride would be different. They also would lower your car to slightly different height.
Springs height are fixed, once u install it, that would be the height u live with where as coilover are fully adjustable.. (comfort level & height)
I do not know if PML would have an issue to void your warrenty if u were to use lower springs, so ask around..

hope it helps

Re: thinking of lower my E60

if u worry abt warranty, then forget abt any MOD..stay safe.
if u want some fun into yr car, go for it.
coilover r fun to adjust, but ex
springs only can do just that much, looks nice, non adjustable, but much cheaper.

but i look at yr question, it seems u r more into "slam" look...
or some say "flush" look
that means yr rims offset will play a part, and also adding spacers to give that touch up to look "slam/flush" hokkien is "swee-swee"

u go down to Boss Motor, and sometimes u see this white car 7227 or 2772 ...:woottt:
then u ask ard if u want that kind of look

Re: thinking of lower my E60

dear guys, thanks for all your suggestions.
I am just a driver driving from work to home and not going for any tracking or so.
That the reason I need something economical and not like you guys suggest coilovers etc etc

My concern is that with the shorter springs installed, will it affect the ride comfort? and will it be rudding the fenders when having full load on the car?
I not too sure of the warranty of the shock absorders will be void but i heard that the life spend of the absorbers will be shorten, pls advice.

Re: thinking of lower my E60

ride comfort will be affected. though probably not as bad as coilovers. fender rubbing will depend on the offset and width of your rims and how low the lowering spring is.

common perception is that lifespan of the absorbers are shortened. but this was not the case for my previous car. maybe cos i drove it on lowering springs for only 2.5 years. the absorbers when i sold the car at 4 years old were still good. what i dun like about lowering springs is that for my case the front gap was 1 finger, and the rear 3. for my friend's case, it was 1 finger in front and 2 behind (different car model, different brand of springs). is it luck? or differing quality? my point is, the height is non-adjustable after you fix it.

Re: thinking of lower my E60

to add on, prices for eibach and h&r shld be ~450-600. im not exactly sure cos i've nv enquired the price for the e60. installation should be included in the price. a basic coilover might be ~$2k.

I'm always reluctant to just lower the spring after my experience in previous ride. Everytime tio "bottom up" when going thru hump too fast. And then after that my shock absorber kaput after 6 months, end up going back to coilover :verysad:
