Hi guys recently bought a E60 Lci . just travelled at NSH few days ago. I realised the wind sound at high speed is pretty bad ! it is normal ? didn't have this sound on my previous car. it is dued to aerodynamic issue ? even at 100km/h to 110km/h can hear liao........:errrrrrr:

Re: The sound of wind at high speed !

Me driving yr 06 523i, hit 160km/hr, slight "sound of wind" can be heard.
Anything below that speed, seems no much sign of the "sound of wind".

Had tried my father-in-law's yr 05 530i early this year during going up north trip,
hit 200km/hr for a short distance, not very noticeable of the "sound of wind".
He ever mentioned that his car is fully assemble in europe and imported into Malaysia
which is "a few ten of grand" more expensive than those partial malaysia assembly ones.

I am wondering our local E60 is it fully europe assembly or partial local assembly?
If it is local partial assembly, then that may explain the difference.

However, my personal thought, that "sound of wind" heard at 110km/hr is abnormal because
it is a BMW.

Re: The sound of wind at high speed !

Precisely it a BMW shouldn't be like that. i wonder it is due to the door seal ? but driving at normal speed car very quiet  dilema maybe M5 mirror will help cut the wind better :D:laughlik:

Re: The sound of wind at high speed !

My E90 get loud wind sound at 90km/hr on our highway. The SA testing beside me said its normal... :(
I sat in numerous Benz before, even those Benz cab, the wind sound is soft to almost none. Wonder why its consider normal for BMW.

Re: The sound of wind at high speed !

I also noticed that. Mine made in Germany but apparently the wind noise is louder than my previous rides such as Mitsubishi, Honda and Opel. However, wind noise is common. You may consider sound proofing your doors, it will reduce vibration produced. However, I think wind noise is not as bad as road noise and creaking sounds inside cabin. The latter are more irritating.

IMHO, BMW are not meant to be really quiet unlike Merc or lexy. On the other hand, mayb u could get a can of gummi pflege from PML or Eng Soon. It may soften the rubber seal to improve insulation.

That's why ppl who are used to Merc cannot sit in BMW.

If u check BMW Club Malaysia, i have not read any complaints of wind noise on SKD E60.

For E39, mechanic told me that there is some diff btw CKD & those from Dingolfing. But he did not point out the diff.

Test drive the demo car and see if wind noise is normal......
