for the E46 model (Correct me if i am wrong)

318 - 143hp
320 - 170hp
325 - 193hp
330 - 221hp
very even space out

For the E90 series

320 - 150hp
323 - 177hp
325 - 218hp
330 - 258hp and soon 265/272hp??

My question is, shouldn't the E90 323 be 190hp plus since it has bigger displacement and why leave such a big gap between 323 and 325? From a marketing point of view, BMW did not cover every segment?

Re: the gap between 177hp and 218hp

e46 330 has abt 230bhp - not 220: not being anal here but 10bhp is not easily obtained bro ;)
And if i'm not wrong torque numbers are impt as well cos thats wat u feel when accelarating.
I suspect the e90s have a lot more torque as compared to the e46s with similar displacements.

With regard to yr question - my guess is that the specs cater to different consumers. 323s for the light-footed who enjoy the smoothness of an in-line6.
325s for those who love charging from light to light in the city??
Price difference between the 323s and the 325s can also justify the bhp gap.
