Tattering noise from the driver seat head rest

My E60 emits intermittent soft tattering noise either while stationary or traveling on road/highway. I am confident the noise comes from the driver seat head rest. However the noise disappears when I rest my head or exerting some force on the head rest.

I have sent the car to PML for investigation but the headrest noise mysteriously disappears while at the workshop. Nevertheless, the technician claimed they have added some tape around the door (or panels), a measure to eliminate a typical rear door noise problems.

Does anyone encounter similar problems? Advise please?

I have made a subject search in this forum but the usual noise problems are from the rear door.

might be worth asking the SA to check the 2 sockets at the top of your back rest where the legs of the head rest are mounted into. Contact point could be lose, resulting in noise emitting when there are slight vibrations.

1 DIY is to remove ur headrest and then wrap it in tape and then fix it back. May work!

Great ideas, thanks. I'll instruct the PML SA to work on it.
