If the car feels lighter, your rims must be WAY lighter than the originals. Every pound saved on the unsprung weight of the wheel, should feel like 10 pounds lighter for the car. This is because of a combination of the flattering effects of decreasing rotational inertia and also better suspension compliance since the up-down inertia of the lighter wheels is less.
To my knowledge, YOU DO NOT NEED to uprate your suspension if you have lighter rims. If you have heavier rims, you may need to increase the spring rates, and as a result, your dampers also. But the situation now is a good one. You feel everything is better.
As for the `too soft' feeling, it's just better suspension compliance, resulting in more comfort. Review the feeling.
