Sudden drop on Gear 4 and 5

Recently I've been encountering 1-2seconds after changing to Gear 4 or 5, my car suddenly seems to lose power and pick itself up again.

What could be wrong?

Re: Sudden drop on Gear 4 and 5

haha sorry let me try again...

at about 70km/h, I switch to the 4th Gear, step on gas, car continues to accelerate for about 2seconds, afterwhich it seems to lose power for about 2seconds, power seems to cut off, and then back again, and move on as normal.

Re: Sudden drop on Gear 4 and 5

Upshifting bro from 3rd Gear. Actually this happen on 5th Gear shifting from 4th but less frequent.

Re: Sudden drop on Gear 4 and 5

I could only imagine that when you clutch out on 4 or 5th gear, there is a clutch slip for a 2 sec period... not sure right or not, but that is the only thing I could think of.

how old is ur clutch?...

Re: Sudden drop on Gear 4 and 5

I'm not sure how old is my clutch, gotten my ride less than a year. I'm thinking whether its clutch slip too, but at the time when it happens, clutch pedal is already fully released, can it still be clutch slip?

Re: Sudden drop on Gear 4 and 5

Hmmm seems like its likely to be clutch slip, what should I do if its really clutch slip, any advise?

Slipping

if it's slipping, your rpm should rise, but your speed is not, much like how you clutch in and rev.

This I'm not sure, but from what I remember, Revving sound seems to drop instead of rising, thats why it feels like power cut

Re: Sudden drop on Gear 4 and 5

Then most likely it's a prob with your gearbox.

bro from ur description quite sure liao la... u drive manual but ur problem sound like auto gearbox.. more like slip gear then grip again...

Re: Sudden drop on Gear 4 and 5

So if it is slip gear, is it going to be a simple repair or need to find parts to change?

find a workshop check la.. the worst will come when u @5th gear it slip to free gear soon..
& u find it difficult to engage higher gear. Now ur gearbox cancer at stage 3.. early detection is better than cure.

stop looking at my avatar.!

Gear slip?... dunno, my mech knowledge no good yet...

Clutch slip... easy, change new clutch lo... did mine, and found a notable difference in power transmitted to the drive train throughout all gears.
