Stretching the tyre a bit is better?

:huhhuh: That day I hear say someone driving M3 say this so I check on internet and I think it seems to make some sense. Normally a 265 width tyre fits on a 9.5J width rim, but the Current M3 uses a 10J rim for the same tyre width at the rear, hence stretching it a alittle which is said to supposedly improve handling?

So does that also mean the usual 225/255 is better off fitted on the JDM sizes of 8.5/9.5J than the recommended BMW sizes of 8/9J because 8.5J will likewise stretch the 225 a bit more and so does the 9.5 on a 255.

Every day I learn new things. Thats why one should not drive pariahs like me.

What tyre brands are we talking about?

265 on RE11 fit 10J as well as 275 on PS2.

Re: Stretching the tyre a bit is better?

i read somewhere that jdm time attack cars like to stretch the tire to reduce sidewall roll

i always thought stretching was only for aesthetic purposes.

Yeah, wanted to do that long time ago but read an article saying that its dangerous. Stretching means there is Tension, and tension is no good isn't it?

Re: Stretching the tyre a bit is better?

i'm running 225/255 tyres on 8.5J/9.5J rim and my tyres are stretched !

pros = less sidewall roll contribute sharp handling, faster pickup ie: always seem fully inflated without sidewall bulge, looks fierce due to rims protrude outside tyres :D

cons = less comfort because of tension .... harsh ride, while going through stripes dong-dong-dong like rabbit, braking could be slightly affected because tyres are stretched. worst case is stretching less stretchable tyres !

i bot a size too small....i stretch the rubber n then it xploded! i had to bring her to the doc immediately for the morning after pill. 20 bucks.

Re: Stretching the tyre a bit is better?

You need to know which tyre brand and what kind of sidewall stiffness before you can contemplate stretching it. To me, it is a no-no.

You are effectively putting the outer diameter of your tyre's sideprofile on the ground.

Re: Stretching the tyre a bit is better?

So which brand of rubber can stretch safely besides DUREX ? Good year f1 Asym and Mich PS2 can stretch?

Both can - sidewall soft.
