Sticky brakes

Hi All,

Wondering if any of you experience the sticky brake syndrome on your E9X's. It typically happens when you release your brakes at the point when your car is about to come to a stop.

Say I am in a traffic jam and requires braking and releasing of the brakes. At that very moment when your car is coming to a stop (idling speed), you realise that the car in front of you has started to move off and you release the brakes. The strange thing is that the car does not respond immediately but surges forward only after a split second or if you completely take your foot off the brake pedal.

Has anyone experienced this or know what needs to be done to resolve it?

Thanks.

Re: Sticky brakes

Might be the hill start assist getting confused and kicking in? I do get a bit of it when I am inching my wife's E90 into its parking position at home, but that's understandable cos my porch does have a bit of a slope.

Re: Sticky brakes

hi breyton, it happens even on level ground. Do E9x's come with slope assist?

Re: Sticky brakes

Normal. When I had my 335, it did the same thing even on even ground. It is believed to be part of the traction control system doing this. But some say its a bug. Either way, its not a big deal since it is just a small lapse before the brakes disengage once you are off the brakes.

Re: Sticky brakes

Like I said, could be the system thinks you're on a slope and kicks in. Or maybe you are really on a gentle slope and you didn't realise it.

I think hill-start assist comes standard on 6-cylinder models. I might be wrong.

It also happens on levelled road. I am inclined to believe it works all the time or at least designed to be that way unless its a bug.

Re: Sticky brakes

thanks for your advise Omar. What should be tweaked to make the brakes more sensitive? i.e, I would like to have the brakes engage without having to depress the brake pedal too much.

I think when i changed to BBk, the problem disappeared.

But you can have better "feel" of the brakes by changing your brake lines and oil. It made a very noticeable difference to me and it is far more progressive braking than stock due to 0 or less flex on stainless steel braided lines as opposed to stock rubber lines. You can get the GruppeM ones from Maximus racing or the Goodrich ones from Wilson. Plus you dont need to change your brakes to BBK. Just Brake Lines and Brake fluid.

Cheers!

Re: Sticky brakes

My previous car was also on stainless steel braided lines and the effect was much firmer brake feel and faster response.
My 325 now is coming to 45k... Is there a need to replace the brake fluid already? I got my pads changed at PML but not sure if they also changed the brake fluid at the same time.
