Steptronic overuse?

Hey there

Just picked up a 2001 330Ci (auto), car is amazing! I love the steptronic feature! I've had the car for just over a week and notice that I'm almost always in manual mode, love picking my own gears. I imagine the gearbox wasn't designed for this sort of use, not like I push it too hard or anything ( I shift rather early, and as smoothly as possible), but I wonder if I may be stressing the tranny some how, after all it is an automatic. You guys have any thoughts on this?? Any help would be appreciated!

To be honest, the steptronic can take alot of beating. i dont understand by what u mean its nto designed for this. If its not designed for this kinda use, ur gearbox wud be having problems by now. i push my car really hard and if there is any problem, it shud have surfaced by now having owned the car for almost 5 years. But what i would recommend to you, being a 2nd hand car, is to do a full service by BVO, namely engine oil and automatic gearbox oil, etc so that you can continue your raping.

you may wish to consider adding an additional tranny fluid cooler which is besides the original cooling from the factory fitted radiator.

steptronic is basically an auto box albeit the ability to control and prolong the shifts.

its driven by tranny fluid whose function is to cool besides lubricating and driving the gears and tend to go on the boil during heavy usage.

with this mod, your tranny fluid will be more efficiently cooled and thereby prolonging your tranny life. this may be mounted front of the radiator of any other location which allows efficient cooling.

should cost you less than 1k inclusive of installation.

by the way, had the steptronic in my e46 swapped to a 6-sp which eliminates this problem.
