Steering Wheel Vibration

Hi hi,

I am driving a 4 year old e60 523i and recently, I find that when braking, the steering wheel will vibrate quite noticeably. Typically, the higher the speed; from 75+ km/h or higher from deceleration, the stronger the vibration. Has anyone experienced this in their rides. I plan to get this checked at a workshop but was hoping to hear feedback from fellow members here. Thanks!

When travelling at high speed if steering wheel vibrate it could due to wheel alignment but when braking vibrate (could it be your disc rotol warp?)

cheers

Re: Steering Wheel Vibration

Yep, that's on my list of possibles but it's just that I don't know what I could have done to cause the rotors to get warped... Anyone knows how much it costs to replace the rotors?

Re: Steering Wheel Vibration

Rotor dont cost much...about $150 - 200/pc for original and half the price for other german brands, can check with ES or the site sponsor..

Hot rotors after lots of braking then go carwash can cause it to wrap...

yup yup....................good input

cheers

Re: Steering Wheel Vibration

Can it be caused by wheels not balanced?

Re: Steering Wheel Vibration

Steering wheel vibrate when braking sure brake rotor wrap
Steering wheel vibrate even when not braking the tire balancing out or wheel alignment out

Just changed mine last week.

Re: Steering Wheel Vibration

Besides suspected warped rotors, please check (1) front bushings and (2) lug tightness (especially if you had recently changed tyres or wheels).

For warped rotors, you might not require replacement. Could be skimmed.

Re: Steering Wheel Vibration

Usually with the front trailing arm bush wear, there is vibration when travelling at a specific speed range. tire balancing just gets worse and worse at higher and higher speeds.

From the description, it sounds like disc warp.

Re: Steering Wheel Vibration

Thanks everyone for your replies.

R2D, are you able to do rotor check and replacement? Please pm me if you can. Thanks.
