Steering wheel veers towards left..

A few days ago my car's steering wheel started to veer towards the left after let go of the controls. I sent my car my car to PML for checking and they claim that there might be pressure problem with the front left wheel, recommending to do an auto balance first and if it fails, a wheel alignment which cost about $200.

I agreed to it and they did an auto balance which cost me $41 and claim that they have tested it and the problem is solved. So i drove my car off happily, tested it on the roads and its fine. But when i start increasing the speed on the expressway, the steering wheel starts veering left again.

I do not want to send it back to PML as the wheels arent covered by warranty and they like to charge high prices. Any other solutions? :(

Re: Steering wheel veers towards left..

If you have a tyre pressure gauge, do check that your pressure are even on both front end. Unbalance front pressure does cause the car to veer on side, usually the side with lower pressure.

Alternative if all pressure are up to par, it may be an alignment problem, for this you have to get the alignment done. Also do explain what's been experienced on the car clearly to the mechanics.

Most Stamford Tyres workshop does alignment, otherwise, look through the list of workshop below and call them if they offer such services

Hope this helps. :)

Is it accurate to use the air pump at petrol station to judge, say i pump to equal amount and after driving it still veers?

As for the alignment, which workshop do you recommend?

Thanks :D

should i try doing balancing first or straight to alignment?

Re: Steering wheel veers towards left..

i had such problem with my previous Jap car, and this is what i had gathered:
1. pump pressure should be uniform in front as a pair, and back as a pair. BMW cars are rear wheel drive, but front steer, i believe a slight diff can be exponential diff in tilt..
2. layman terms of measuring veer; if car at 90kph can past 3~4 lamp post straight ...
its acceptable level, as there r many factors to cause any so call "veer", unless u hv front passenger same wt as you..:nehnehhh:
or there could be a few small stones stuck in betwee those tire threads...

to my best believe, camber is also important, so go to any workshop who can do wheel alignment, they hv some test result to show you :laughlik:
then pump even presuure back to desired psi to re-cfm it.
the last thing u wish to know is that yr drive shaft or any thing that is link to fron t wheels has worn out...that means more $$

Re: Steering wheel veers towards left..

1st floor sin ming auto care there is one...cant remember the name. 2nd or 3rd shop on the rightside from the entrance. Was charged 60 for alignment.

I didn't have a very good experience regarding alignment with one of the workshops in the resource folder. pm me

At 90kmh it will start veering immediately after i let go of the steering, is it bad? If i'm on the right, but the car veer's left, dont think its the weight issue unless someone or something heavy is sitting beside me all the time

I guess i need to find a good workshop to get all this tested and settled

Kian Teong? They are ok folks.

Re: Steering wheel veers towards left..

After changing my absorber, BVO brought to Kian Teong for alignment. Afterwhich, I find that the car does not track straight and will veer to the left. Steering feels loose.

Decide to bring it back to Kenny to take a look. After doing some tweaks, the car is back to how it should be. Tight and straight!
