Steel rod punched my car

Hello,

I thought of sharing one experience I had recently while driving on NSE - especially for those who like to drive fast.

I love to drive in 120-140 range in NSE, especially because I miss such roads in Singapore. At that point fortunately, my speed was about 110, and suddenly I heard a big "thud" sound followed by continuous loud noise. It sounded just like a wheel is gone off, except I had full control of the car, so, I knew that it wasn't a flat tire. I slowed down and took the car to road shoulder.

When I checked, I found that a steel rod, about 10 inches long, has caught by my tire, and hit the mud-cover above the wheel. It punched the mud-cover and gone inside about 4 inches. I managed to pull it out, and everything was fine then.

I realized how lucky I was that it hit the mud-cap instead of something critical. It could have punched my tire, or locked my wheel by creating a fatal accident. Or, it could have bumped off my tire, and hit a car next to me.

Also, if that happened while I am driving at 140 with someone tailgating me, that could have definitely been a major accident.

When you feel like driving fast, something to think about.

It's an unfortunate event. There are many stupid things on the road nowadays

Man, you are one lucky dude! Once I headed north with friends in a convey, all were speeding like typical singaporeans, one of the cars' rear tyre BURST... I mean really burst and car spin like in 'Fast and Furious'... Luckily it was daytime and the cars at the back did not tailgate... If not it would be fatal... Some of us help him push over his car to the shoulder and change spare tyre... :screwedu:

Re: Steel rod punched my car

fwah lucky you. glad you are ok. it could have gone right through and into your car.

Re: Steel rod punched my car

Thanks for everyone for concerns and responses! Yes, it could have easily punched into the car like a bullet. Or if I had old tyre, it could have burst too.

Once I was driving on a straight empty road but there was a nasty bump, which I couldn't see. I felt like flying for a second. After that incident, I usually go fast only when there is another car goes in front of me with a safe distance. That way, I can see what is going on with the car in front :). i thought it will also help me hide from hand-held speed cameras!!
