ST Car of the Year - Jaguar XJ?

What are the judging criterion? Consumer poll? Expert opinions?

I thought for a car to be a "Car of the Year", it has to possess a certain level of consumer appeal and affordable breakthrough technologies. But why the XJ?

It is the last car on my mind.

in terms of looks,
the car looks ugly compared to my e60.
