I think it comes down to a matter of feel. The 320i at least feels quite dead until the pedal is about 1/3 down, and then it comes alive. The SB helps to eliminate the dead feel. The other interesting thing is that it activates the kick-down earlier. All in all it means more power at less effort, even if the bhp/torque remains exactly the same.
I'm thinking of getting one myself. It's pretty cheap and should work very nicely with my incoming GruppeM and new spark plugs.
with the $$ spend on the SB, why not spend it on an ECU tune which REALLY increase power and responsiveness. To me SB is just a simple device that reduces the distance in throttle travel, ie for people like me for example with shorter legs than the average beng.
