any kind soul here wanna elaborate more on whats the difference?

all i know is that the car gets lowered!

Both lower the ride, but coilovers firm the ride in handling. When you combined coilovers with sways, it helps in handling the ride such as cornering.

Springs will drop the ride but never even....RHD BMW is always lower on the driver side.

Springs will never have the drop to what you want....

Only Coilovers can drop the height to wat you want & adjust the car evenly on both sides.

To literally answer your question :

Springs are just springs

Coilovers are part of suspension set up and they include Springs, Damper, Height Adjuster , Locking Perch, Bump Stops and few other little things.

Springs are cheaper. Coilovers are expensive.

wah u guys rock. talk about elaborate details man haha.

just spent like over 2k on exhaust and rear lights and spraying of my car cos some f**ker keyed my car front to back on both sides. bloody a**hole. i dont understand vandals. my car is just a frigging black e90 320. go scratch a nicer car la omg.

how much are springs man i honestly cant afford those coilovers.

Springs typically cost bout 500-600 bucks I reckon for the whole car

I took over a set of H&R springs for my ex-car and it was lowered really aggressively. See photo:

However, I felt that the shocks were unable to match the springs properly and I did have some bottoming out when I took corners faster and the corners had sudden dips. They unsettled the car easier and they were scary moments... And u can only estimate how much the springs are going to lower the car once you put them on. There is no trial & error like coilovers where u can adjust both height and/or damping (ie. PSS9 or KW var.2).

There are 3 common kinds that you can look at:

1. Springs (just springs)
2. Spring & Shock Suspension kits (H&R cupkits, Koni kits, etc) - where u get matching shocks to the shorter springs
3. Coilovers - Height-adjustable, Height & bound adjustables and Height, bound & rebound adjustables.

In the end, I swapped out the springs after 2wks and went with KW Var.1 kit (height adjustable only). Never regretted my decision after that. New car waiting for my KW var.2 (height & bound adjustable).

springs are just lowering springs which lower the stance of your car. However, without changing the shocks, the suspension is not optimized and certain things can occur like hitting the bump stop or the car bottoming out even. With stock shocks and lowering springs, the ride also suffers since there is less suspension travel than with the stock springs. This will not happen in a coilover system as they whole system has been tailor designed and made to make the car sit lower without sacrificing suspension travel and offer better handling. Ride will not suffer as much as well and you have the option of adjust each individual coilover until you are satisfied...

arielsc - wah steam ah ur e46 so low. with those springs no need body kit already. are going thru humps a a b***h??

mracer - im all show no go. car look swee can already. i cant bear to bring my car to track or anything so.. i guess ill just go for springs. those damn coilovers sounds sweet but haha ill have to eat porridge for a few months.

for springs which brand shiok? i like KW only cos i see those stickers on the e90 dtm cars

who drives a white e92? cute cute one haha i saw him at j4c so steam his car.

My ex-car had the M-aero bodykit as well as add-on front splitters. Humps were a biatch.

White E92 is Fuzzy! :)

hit bump stops, simple, remove the stops. You guys need to get out more, its all about looks, who cares about track. Give me a set of stock springs, let me hacksaw, or even better oxy a few coils off, sweeeee.
