Spray painting body kits

I was dissapointed with the new M aero body kits paint finish. The shop I got them installed had them spray painted by another paint shop n the colour didnt exactly match. So I went back to them and they agree to respray soon.

The thing is - they said instead of removing the 4 body kit parts, spray, and then reinstall....they are gonna wrap up the whole car to ensure rest of car does not get affected, and then leave the body kits eposed for respraying. Is this the right way to do? Wouldnt certain parts like my rims will also kena?

Or shouldI insist the remove kits and respray?

Re: Spray painting body kits

wow...ur 335i getting Aero kit treatment?

i think its better to remove the kit for all spray painting, this way all edges are evenly covered with proper lacquer finish to OEM...

Re: Spray painting body kits

yeah the driver (eerrmm) is getting heavier like kung fu panda so must put more aerodynamics into the car to improve handling.

Re: Spray painting body kits

Beng, should remove the whole thingy and respray. If second layer not primed, will it peel?

where did you go? where u bought it from?

you should remove the bodykit prior to doing any spray painting / primering whatsoever...

wrapping up the whole car is short cut method which will result in uneven painting and overspray to come other parts of the car...

I dont not want to reveal the shop where I did the bodykits, as it is also not their direct fault. Its the shop that does spray paint which cocked up. Anyway, they have agreed to respray so I think its fair, just that I find it a little dodgy that I need to send my car there instead of of just the kits and the spary shop said they gonna wrap my car up !

Equally dodgy is teh spary shop said the reason why the colour differed is bcos the spary colour is sapphire black for BMW 5 n 7 series whereas the one I had is 3 series sapphire black! And BMW changed the colour mix altho they retained the same colour code 475/9.:screwedu:

However, if they screw up a second time then u now chao Ah Beng will not shut up on the forum.:lol2:
