Sounds Emitting from Tyre

hi all!

wondering if anyone of you guys suffer from the same and have rectified it...

while traveling at slower speed like picking up or slowing down, the front tyres seem to be rubbing or brushing against something which creates this rubbing sounds. but once the speed picks up the sound goes away.

and come back again when i slow down.

i have check with many repair guys, they blame the tyre, advised me to change to 17 or 16 inch.

but i never had this problem before. what could have been damaged?

sounds like you have 18" rims on your ride... is it a e46 or 36? I had the same problem if my tyres were "balding"... especially 18: rims... louder

mine is 18inch, e36. so what did u do to solve the problem....it's getting irritating...the front tyre is balding, so i switch from front wheels to the back wheel, and the sound got lounder.

has it to do with the bush or bearing or what not...

anyone?

yes something like that, but the sound does go away when the speed picks up.

was advised to change to a smaller rim size by the mechanic, and that will solve the problem.

Go to your regular tire shop and put on 4 workshop rims and go for a spin. If the noise is still there, its def the wheel bearings. Your E36 is very prone to that symptom. Would set you back to $500 for a pair.

some tyres are plain noisy...hehe....i remembered my firehawk tyres, freaking noisy but its better now after changing to dunlop sportmaxx

i dont suppose the tire shop can repair the wheel bearing thingy.

Can only isolate the problem. Get a reputable workshop to do it.

i was at M&Q @ tampines and LSH tireshop @ eunos today, met Jawzsg and Altris, not sure if i got the spelling right.

basically my ride has been lowered and with the 18inch wheel, the tyres wear out much faster as the car is sufffering from negative camber which resulted in the front wheel tires inner thread wearing out thus the loud noise while driving.

solution...changed to 17inch, new tires, sound gone and pick up is much better...better FC too. the BBS rims i got through trade-in is quite ugly though...

the 2nd hand set of BBS is $800, after trading in my 18inch, i pay $300. good deal?

no la, just 4 rims trade in value of $300. they take my 18inch with pretty bad tires. i had to buy new tires.
