Any bro here has done any sound proofing to their car? I intend to do my ICE upgrade but will it be better to have some sorta sound proofing?

Saw on Hong Guan's website pictures of sound proofing on an Audi, i must say, it's a masive job, sound proofing the whole car. I wonder, how much does it cost and is there a partial sound proofing eg, juz for the door and floor.

Any bro can advice?

Re: Sound Proofing B4 ICE installation

if u are not hardcore icer...no need massive. soundproofing the front doors where your speakers are gonna be fitted. it should cost u in the region of $300 to $700 for dynamat extreme i think, depending on who u go to..for 2 doors.

Re: Sound Proofing B4 ICE installation

Thanks bro. Been reading yr posts on ICE, think u're one of the most knowledgable ICE guys.

So to sound proof the 2 doors will be good enuf right. What about cutting tire noise? can U PM me which shop does good sound proofing with good $. Thanks again.

Re: Sound Proofing B4 ICE installation

i dont go to every shop to do soundproof so i cant tell u who is better or cheaper etc... i think Hong guan is better than good enough... i've seen new generation done a shit job for loads of $$$

honestly, i think soundproofing is over-rated in a car. unless u can s'proof the windows as well :) Don't spend too much money on it..

Re: Sound Proofing B4 ICE installation

any recommendations on what material is best at absorbing (not dampening) high frequency sounds?

Re: Sound Proofing B4 ICE installation

Noted :) Will be going to HG most likely.

Sound proofing over rated? U mean it doen't make much diff? I'm qte sensitive to noise, hope I can cut out as much tire/road noise as possible. Will it help by doing SP-ing juz 2 doors?

According to what you said, you sounded like the guy that bought my car.

If you really are the one that bought my E90. Read this.

Is Performance Motor Limited that did some damage to the sound proofing. They intended to replace the whole door panel. (You know why they never replace the door panel after all the hassle they've go through) and the mechanics working in PML did inform me that it'll damage the sound proofing before they carried out the work.

ONLY if you've seen the sound proofing before it was damaged, then you comment about New Generations.

I'm not posting here to offend, or comment on anyone nor any ICE installers but just to clarify.

Thanks.

Re: Sound Proofing B4 ICE installation

Sound proofing is ok. As mentioned, doesn't necessarily have to be the whole car. Basics: front doors, left and right. Then trunk. If you have extra, do the front floor area (for the road noise).

Expect noise reduction coming from the outside; just don't think it would be too "quiet", ok? :)

Many kinds of sound deadening out there. Just make sure you get a good installer to do it.

Good luck!

Don't have to spend so much $$$$. I think it only cost $2...a pair of ear plug...hehe...:)

Re: Sound Proofing B4 ICE installation

Dynamat is very popular; proven too. There are many brands, and different materials: cascade, raamat, flashband, etc.

Re: Sound Proofing B4 ICE installation

havent heard much of flashband....any review in terms of application, durability etc ?

Re: Sound Proofing B4 ICE installation

there are a lot of reviews in the internet. If you want the sure, proven thing, go dynamat and call it a day. good luck man!
