Snap from power window

Hi,

I need some help from forumers. Hope someone here can point me in the right direction. I drive a E36 318i 4-door sedan. I was winding down my window today and suddenly there was a loud *snap* followed by the rattle of something dropping in the door panel. The driver's window then became loose / "senget" and I had to use my hand to wrestle it back up and it had thankfully stayed up since then.

Well I sort of know the bad news - something broke/came out in the power window assembly (probably the pin). The thing is do anyone know what the cost of fixing it will be? I am somewhat worried about being "chopped" by workshops who would bleat about having to replace the motors etc and parts which are still ok instead of just fixing the problem.

Anyone have a shop to recommend for fixing this type of "injury"?

Its a good thing that the IU has become so commonplace in Singapore - otherwise it would be a "fix-me-now" type of issue.

Many thanks in advance and hope to hear from someone.

Re: Snap from power window

my guess is the window regulator needs to be replaced.

my 18mth old E46 had this problem, the plastic 'pulley' thingy broke. $350 part (whole window regulator system) & labour for this piece of plastic!!!

VERY common problem for some of our bimmers.
Unfortunately...

Take it down to R2D @ Bukit Batok
http://www.bmw-sg.com/forums/r2d-autoworks-pte-ltd/

They do this particular repair day-in-day-out. :D
I've had at least 3-4 regulators fixed between the 2 E46s in my household.

Re: Snap from power window

Thanks for the replies so far. If not because the thing broke on the driver's side, I would just leave it alone until it demands to be fixed.

Re: Snap from power window

Just to update - problem fixed already.

Took the car to BM Workshop in Bt Merah and they replaced the broken window clips. No other damage was found. Took some time as my door panel was falling apart and are currently held in place by some bolts/screws around the edge. $$$ damage was significantly less than what I anticipated so was quite happy.
