SMG Sports Mode

Hi guys, gong xi fa cai!

just wanted to check something, realised that when driving in sports mode there's very little lag in the smg (Z4) tranny's shifting (much better driving experience)...

question is, assuming i drive normally (not high revs or anything), is it ok to drive in sports mode all the time? would there be any premature wear on any parts or would i be putting undue stress on any parts?

thanks guys!

Re: SMG Sports Mode

from my experience with my e46 m3, the smg auto mode was useless so i always drove in sport because it allowed me to control the shifting and i never had any problems.

to change the shifting speed i remember there was a button below the smg lever that you could press to make it faster of slower. the sport button on my dash actually only adjusted the throttle response.

Re: SMG Sports Mode

Yeah it's perfectly alright to drive in sports mode all the time if you wanted to.

If you abuse the SMG though, you might get issues with the smg fuel pumps etc later, but generally shouldn't be an issue. (again abuse).

My previous Z went through a pretty good time.

Re: SMG Sports Mode

Put it in power and give it the boot. SMG loves hard driving. LOL....

Re: SMG Sports Mode

I constantly drive round in setting 4 unless I want crazy fast changes. Not sure if this counts as abuse but the car has to go in because the hydro pressure can't be retained anymore. I believe this to be a problem on some of the earlier SMG II's - may be just expected wear and tear!!
