smaller rim but more rubber

Lets say you are running a 19inch 8.5J rim with 235/35/19 tyre.

If you switch to a smaller rim 18inch but same 8.5J width but then compensate with more rubber 235/40/18.

What the diff. Some say lighter and faster and more comfy, but wouldnt the lesser metal be offset by more rubber so LPPL? Or is it because more metal is concentrated nearer the axle so rotation mass is lesser?:juggle:

The difference will be in the flexes on the sidewalls. Handling should not be the same, given that (1) lateral flexes and/or (2) rotational flexes are more prominent in tyres with higher aspect ratios.

Pick up a piece of eraser. Move it in straight line and then in S curves, and then hold the eraser closer to the table. Repeat the same movements in straights and S. The rubber had not change in length, but which felt more stable?

reminds me of my flag eraser days from pri sch.
