Alamak, Changed 4pcs new Michelin PSII 2wks ago size 245/45/17 and got the a/b issue when speed around 100kph onwards...

Went back shop days ago. Shop removed front 2 tyres did rotation. Shop say dunno alignment or wat run. Refix back, same issue again...

Will go back to them again Mon. Wat could be the issues?
Very SAD le. PSII should be good. End up worst then my OEM REO50 RFT.

Initially wanted Goodyear F1 or Assymetric but Shop say no stock. :(

Oh yeah. And the car veers to the Left olso.

"High Speed Balancing". Can it be done by the workshop that replaced my tyres?

Re: Slight Vibration on Steering + Noisy Tyre at 100kph onwards!

high speed balancing is God,can solve all your steering vibration.
in modern day car and quality rim and tyre does not required anymore those eqiupment liao.
just go back to your shop and get them to re-check the possiblilty like not properly balanced, is rim centre hub sitting correctly etc

Re: Slight Vibration on Steering + Noisy Tyre at 100kph onwards!

Any Good Tyre Specialist can do the High Speed Balancing?
I went back the original tyre shop did tyre rotation, wheel alignment + HSB.

But still got same issue. Noisy tyre + slight vibration in excess speed 100kph...
WTF... Sibe Sianz... Wat injustice to Michelin Pilot Sport 2...

:(

Re: Slight Vibration on Steering + Noisy Tyre at 100kph onwards!

you need balancing, and the tyre noise, just live with it

Re: Slight Vibration on Steering + Noisy Tyre at 100kph onwards!

Re: Slight Vibration on Steering + Noisy Tyre at 100kph onwards!

i don't think PS2 is exactly quiet also leh.. i have that on my car and it's a little noisy.. 800km thus far...

Worst is the CSC3.. either that or i need to stop digging my ears..

sorry for my mistake.
high speed balancing is NOT God
today modern car usually no need this kind of machine(high speed)
Just make sure the rim and tyre are Good /premium quality you are safed from those problem.
may be you should get them to re check all the wheels fitting like centre adaptor/wheel spacer if any/ wheel bolts sitting right type.

Dan, let it run for another few hundred km. it will get progressively smoother.

my PS2's were noisy at first now much better. then again for such high performance tyres u cant expect them to be as silent as yokohama aspec dB's. with more grip and performance comes more noise.

one thing though, the ps2's ability to soak up bumps is awesome! very useful when u r running a very low profile setup. not much buffer for bump absorbtions. and the ps2's does well in this dept.

Hi,

I am on PS2 too and had this problem too when I did my tyres rotation at stamford PL. Its a fairly common problem on older BMWs, Some call it the "shimmy"

If it comes on after the tyres change/rotation, the usual culprits are :-

wheel balancing,
sitting of the wheel hub ( cause by rust -clean the hub with a wire brush)
torque on the nuts ( usual is 72 lb-ft but can go to 80 or more to solve it))
Can be many reasons for shimmy, try this 1st - The BMW 5 Series (E39) Message Forum

mine problem was cleared after I done all of the above so I cannot tell which is the exact solution.

If the above don't work then you may have to look at the control links etc.

Good luck!

Re: Slight Vibration on Steering + Noisy Tyre at 100kph onwards!

thanks for the info... didn't know about the bump absorption as I never use PS2 before and it comes together with my new car.. so to me the ride quality is always about the suspension.. but then one thing is right tho, it does get smoother as my mileage is near 1000km already.. so far so good.. :)

Re: Slight Vibration on Steering + Noisy Tyre at 100kph onwards!

should be rim problem most of the time, try a swap to Jepun Rim...like Volk, Advan, BBS...etc..those should be your safest bet.

Re: Slight Vibration on Steering + Noisy Tyre at 100kph onwards!

Juz puzzled how a new PS2 tyre could be noiser then the OEM RFT REO50.

Guys, any good Tyre Specialist i can consult to solve this issue?

TQ
