Clinching another world number 1, Singapore is the most expensive place in the world to buy a Toyota Corolla according to information gathered by Yahoo!.
The index is a rough measure that compared the official prices of the Toyota Corolla Altis 1.8L or version closest to this model in a number of different countries based on the prices listed on the official Toyota websites.
While it is not a very precise measure given several key differences in what is included in the price such as road tax, registration and other expenses, the results clearly show that Singaporeans pay more than double what people in Cuba (the country ranked 2nd) pay.
In Singapore, the Toyota Corolla Altis, 1.8L costs about S$136,000.
Unsurprisingly, Japan was at the bottom of the list with a Toyota Axio 1.5L (the closest variant to the Corolla Altis sold in Singapore) selling for about S$20,700.
Other countries that saw comparatively low prices for the Toyota Corolla include the USA (about S$23,000), China (S$28,500) and Australia (S$30,000).
The second most expensive place to buy a Toyota Corolla was found to be Cuba (S$50,500), followed by Nigeria (S$46,000) and then Indonesia and Brazil, (both about S$45,500).
While it is probably not surprising that Singapore ranked at the top, this comparison clearly shows just how much more Singaporeans are paying for their average car.
Singaporeans pay roughly 6.5 times more than the Japanese and about 2.7 times more than the closest runner up, Cuba.
