Singapore Aerospace Car - Beware if your car is SAA141

Hi guys,

Today while travelling near Kallang Mac, a black gleaming 523i pull along side at the traffic lights. What caught my eyes (or shall I say my ears rather as I could hear the loud music, he was playing in his car. Turn around and saw this young indian driver with a long white sleeve shirt and his cool shades blasting the music away. When the lights turn green, I could see him speeding off - there goes the running in for that car. I could only smell smoke as my car is still running in....

At the end of the day, a lemon remains a lemon no matter what the external color is!

Wouldn't the same logic apply for buying 2nd hand cars? Even with an inspection, u can never be too sure what u are getting. Then again, many still believe in buying 2nd hand cars as the brunt of the loss would probably be borne by those who bought it brand new. It's a trade off; there ain't no free lunch in this world......

2nd hand cars - you are in there with a purpose, and your expectations are tempered to meet the possible flaws in the car... in exchange for a cheaper price and the 1st owner taking the bulk of the depreciation.

AA cars - I mean so what is it? is it a 1st hand car that has been "run-in" for 1000km? Or is it a really just like a 2nd hand car? and if it is like a 2nd hand car, then the prices ought to be way lower right? I am not sure how much PML sells these AA cars, but i dun suppose they are like as cheap as a true blue 2nd hand car?

Nothing wrong with buying used cars... it can somtimes be the wiser move.

But i think buying AA cars are kinda neither here nor there if you know what i mean.

But well, to each his own.

I am no techical guru.. but in layman terms, I think your engine is less "healthy" in the long run.

hehe

errr. i think its bad enough you know..

not run-in properly cars will give problems all over - engine, suspension, brakes, gear box etc...

Re: Singapore Aerospace Car - Beware if your car is SAA141

didnt know that.... (20 char thing)

Re: Singapore Aerospace Car - Beware if your car is SAA141

Because of the tight tolerance in new engines they need a running in period to slowly loosen it up. Over reving can cause excessive wear and in extremely cases, I think, a slight loss of power.

Re: Singapore Aerospace Car - Beware if your car is SAA141

what do u mean by tight tolerance

Give those AA buyers a break. The no. of transfers will still be reflected as zero so it's still better than buying a second-hand. And these days people change cars within 3 years so it does not really matter.

I disagree with you..

While this is not meant to be a AAbuyer hunting exercise, i think as a responsible car owner myself, it is important that buyers are aware of the potential problems posed when they choose to purchase cars under such circumstances.

I mean, I am utterly careful when running in my car simply because I dont want to risk any future problems. And I hardly keep my car beyond 2 years. All cars by right, should and must be run-in properly. Even the manual states so. There is no argument.

Its all about personal responsibility.

Unfortunately, many of these "chauffer-drivers" in events like AA probably dont give 2 hoots.

Buyers should be empowered to make better informed decisions.
