Side Mirror Noise

Recently, one of my side mirrors keeps making louder noises when folding and unfolding and gets jammed (but not always).
Why is it that the folding and unfolding the side mirrors makes so much noise? My friend's civic is super quiet when he does it.

Am driving a soon to be 3 year old BMW 320i

Re: Side Mirror Noise

there is bound to be some motorise noises. but by what u have described it seems worst then usual. compare side by side with another bro's 3 series and see if its the same.

Re: Side Mirror Noise

My previous E39 side mirror also got this problem, send back to PML and found out that it was out of alignment. Don't ask me how but this is what I was told. Anyway, don't know is it same problem as yours but worth a try. Good luck !

Re: Side Mirror Noise

After PML repairs the mirror motor, it will work good ... but only for a while, till it gets noisy and jammed again.

It happened to me and after a number of workshop visits, just gave up and set the mirror fixed open.

The same thing for the titling left mirror during reversing.
After many times of 'rectification' by PML, just left it on non-tilting-on-reverse option.

For the record, I sold my BMW after 3 years.

My previous Lexus (before the BMW) had super silent folding mirrors ... even after 3 years of use. Never need to be repaired at all.
Yes, the Japanese use motors too .... but not as loud as the German ones (or African, or Austrian, depending on your BMW model's OEM) and definitely of much higher reliability.
