- Enginewise...as you mentioned, you can do ECU mapping to increase the hp and torque so that it will perform close or similar to stock 320i. But this will void your warranty if the car is from PML...and not cheap to do.

i would list a few "important" items (at least to me) for comparison
a. headlights (xenon vs non-xenon?)
b. leather seat (dakota vs synthetic?)
c. aircon (auto vs manual, i dislike the manual knob look although auto dual-climate is not a big deal)
d. engine (this is non critical if the person is not power fanatic and can always tune the ecu)

2) The differences in 320 and 318 is already highlighted so i will not elaborate. Will he need the extra features that is in 320? Some owners love to have as much features as possible so it's really individual. Moroever chasing features is a relentless race ....
3) The 318 sunroof is fun to have. I.e. if you are a person who enjoys some sun during mornings and moonlight etc during nights. But if you are a person who enjoys aircon all day then the sunroof is not very useful. (Although you can still use it to see some sun and also air the car when the car is too hot after parking many hours under the sun)
4) Lastly according to pml and c&c (not too sure if its true), the 318 sunroof edition is not in stock anymore. Newer ones do not have sunroof as a standard.
my car comes with sunroof and i enjoy every moment with it. (Or maybe i am getting old and life is slowing down ....hahahhahahah)
