Shaking when shifted into Reverse gear

Hi bros,

My E60 is about 8,800km mileage and thus far, no issue with the drive. This morning, when I was parking...as usual, foot on brake, shift to reverse and wham...the car was shaking quite bad...had a fright and thought was the brake, so release brake and car was moving and shaking

Then I shifted it back to Drive...shaking was not much reduce.....shift back to Reverse, can feel the shaking, but very much reduced....

I called PML and goign to bring in car tomorrow morning to run through with tester....

Any bro encountered this before?

sounds like an ATF issue... some other bros have recommended the ATF be changed even though bmw/pml claims it's lifetime...

my shake issues on e90 were resolved with a atf filter and atf replacement.

hope pml comes back with a satisfactory answer.

Just curious, if they deny anything wrong tomorrow....can I insist that they change it, since its still under warranty?

since you're under warranty (hopefully), you have to be firm and not take crap from your SE for an answer (e.g. it's normal, will go away by itself since we fixed it by changing some plug/seal). get some sort of written guarantee the issue will be resolved with whatever they propose to do... because changing the ATF and filter is just an assumption on my part... and the mechanics there know better, especially since they have diagnostic equipment...

sounds like you have a blown ignition coil... ATF and transmission will usually not fail so easily.

just luck... if it is indeed at fault, its a cheap and fast fix. Normally there are 2 kinds of fault in the ignition coil. 1st is the insulating lacquer in the coil windings themselves fails due to heat and this can occur anytime. The other is the ignition amplifier itself burns out. Also another un-explainable fault. They just feel like packing up 1 fine day..

there should be six coil packs. if your mileage is low, may be a one off issue as stated. no need to change all....

To update all,

Just came back from PML. Had a very friendly quality engineer to test drive to spot the issues. Good news is, he confirm that its not the ignition coil issue, but will have to send it in for a diagnostic next week. He mentioned that the RPM is abit low, so will adjust it during the diagnostic.

Will update after diagnostic next thursday.

Why can't the diagnostics test be done all at one time, since the appointment with the tester was made, and your issue has been made clear?

Because our kind, wonderful, helpful and extremely customer oriented PML say I must make booking.... as my car won't blow up while driving and is not critical.

Earlier date give to me was 4th May...have to sayang sayang the lady to push for earlier date...and the best is next Thursday....What can I say....LL lor..
