Seeking advice on repair

I was not careful in the carpark and created some damage on the door. I claybar off the marks but there is still a dent across the door. It is not v deep, less than 5mm. I visited some of the reputable workshops and was advised to change the entire door as f10's door is aluminium alloy. Was told this material does not have 'memory effect' unlike steel and thus would be hard to restore to perfection and knocking back aluminium would severely weaken its structural strength.

At one of the workshops i was even shown a pair f10's front and rear doors which were just replaced and i can see the dent is not v deep.

Anyone can advice? All f10 bros better be careful with your bonnet, doors and front wheel fender as all of them are aluminium.

Is true that aluminium alloy is a material that cannot really be re-dress back to it original shape when de-formed. If u manage to dress back, if also will be very weaken unless you send it for heat treatment.
If the dent is a small area, maybe u can use aluminium putty to level it back, but not those putty use in the paint shop. (One of the brand is " Devcon F")

The best person to ask for second opinion on dents - Ah Lye at Lye Design.

If he cannot fix the dent, you might be able to putty off (and respray). Not sure if aluminium is so "brittle" the whole door must be changed (???)

Re: Seeking advice on repair

dents on aluminium doors can be fixed as long as its only dented and no cracks been made..

i have dented my alum fender before , mike of SWC decide against putty-ing the part ( depends on the curvature of the area ) some areas cannot be pulled off by putty , so he advise me to go to ah lye , knock it out and even out the metal before respraying it... look as good as new

Re: Seeking advice on repair

change the whole door really sounds too dramatic.. yup BVO is good in such repair

Re: Seeking advice on repair
