Sebring exhaust and advice on mufflers

Dear friemds,

I am intending to place an order for a sebring muffler for my E46 318 valvetronic.
I have some concerns and would like to seek opinions. I know that some of these have been discussed before somewhere, so pls bear with me:

1. is the exhaust noise going to be much louder than the original? I just want to have my 4 pot sound closer to the 6 pot, but yet do not want the noise to be too intruding.

2. is it true that semi-straight systems keeps the low end torque and is more suitable for autos and Singapore roads, compared to the pure straight-throughs?

3. can I get some advice on the fit and finish of Sebring system? I know that the supersprint exhaust tips slants towrads the left and is not paralle with the car body. Is the serbing fitting better as i am very particular about getting the oem look?

4. lastly, given that the valvetronic engine is highly stable (e.g. occasion erractic rpm fluctations, jerky shifts) would the performance exhaust system 'disturb' the balance?

Thanks very much on any advice.

Hi CSS..

Am currently running on the Sebring System for my 4 potter... hope this helps...

1. Exhaust noise will definately be louder than standard setup... the 4 will not sound like the 6 as they are two completely different engines. What you will get is a distinctive sporty exhaust note. (4 will always be a 4 whilst a 6 will be likewise) and it will not be intruding... perhaps a slight drone between gears 1st thru to 3rd.

2. With regards to low end.. from my personal experiences... it should not be felt but you would probably have to exercise discipline on your right foot...

3. The sebrings sit parallel and the diameter of the tail pipes will definitely be bigger than OEM... all in all, it will look sportier but not overbearing.

4. No 'disturbances' felt thus far to the balance of the car... been running on the system for a year now....

5. Go right ahead... you wont regret it.... : )

Regards

Re: Sebring exhaust and advice on mufflers

Thanks TripleM & 55 for the feedback,

I am likely to go ahead as I would like to have a sportier exhaust note and a more free revving engine. Somehow the 2.0 valtronic engine lacks character and hopefully this mod can put some character into the car.

55, is the drone you mentioned irritating? BTW, are you also on Iridium plugs.. are they good for our N42 as well... my Borcg super4 are way overdue with 40k km on them?

Thanks!

A change of muffler will bring about some form of character to your Valvetronic engine... no massive gains to be expected but I am sure your that it will be a pleasure for your hearing senses. The droning is minimal...

Am currently on Volker sparks... BMC CAI and Sebring muffler... works for me....

Cheers
