Safe to steam clean leather uphosltery?

Dad's car has light gray leather uphostery which appears to be damn dirty.

One option is to scrub it with a leather cleaner/conditioner (many products by Meguire's, Zymol, BMW etc out there).

The other option is to use the Osim Steam Genie. I think its gonna remove the dirt from the leather seats very quickly but I'm not sure if it'll damage the leather. Comments anyone?

No steam cleaning please, it will harden leather over time.
As you have mentioned, get a leather cleaner instead. Hard work, but it works.
Alternatively, send it to the groomers, but $$$.

i get mine steam cleaned when it goes for grooming, so i woudnt have thought it would damage the leatehr. if you want to be safe just test on a small patch let it dry off first.

Not advisable to steam clean. Try this instead...use a soft brush like a toothbrush or something like that. As long as as it is soft, it should be okay. I use the kind those nail shops use to scrub nails. Apply some leather cleaner and gently scrub with the brush. Work on a small patch at a time. You will like the result!

try a NEW UNUSED shoe brush and gryceline soap and small amounts of water.

Bought a facial brush as Gabey had advised earlier and used it with Meguire's Gold leather cleaner/conditioner. It kinda works but not 100% clean, so I'm looking for something that can do some 'deeper cleansing'.

There are 2 schools of thought having done a search on the net. Some folks say no way to use hot steam cos it damages some organic structure of the leather (can't remember what's its called). While others say its OK (especially the vendors who sell these steam machines), so I'm kinda seeking people's opinions & experience.

Hi Gombat,

Lux soap works really well! Its good for 'regular maintenance' type of cleaning. And of course, followed up with leather conditioner.

Gabriel,

Sure! Call me whenever you have wash & wax party.
Just got a wool pad use with the medium cut rubbing coumpound. It wasn't aggresive with the foam pads. Going to try it this weekend - just hope it removes the etchings from the clear coat.
Just got the 3M paste wax too.
