Route from Singapore to Kuantan - options?

Searched the forum but couldn't find this... what are the recommended routes to Kuantan? Heard a few:
1 - Take east coast route via Mersing - many people don't recommend it during rainy season
2 - Take NSE and go via Segamat - can someone explain the route please
3 - Take NSE and take Karak Expressway (E8) - biggest question here is how to bypass KL traffic? Can someone explain please?

Thanks

2. Once u're on E2, take Segamat exit and head in the east direction. You will come out and join the east coast route around Mersing area.

3. You'll only be exposed to KL traffic for about 15-20 clicks (the route that passes by the Negara Zoo). Karak expressway is the same route to get to Genting Highlands. Just follow signboard towards Genting. Once u're on Karak expresssay, just head all the way.

This is as much as I can remember. Last I did any of these were more than a year ago.

Cheers,
Jason

I used to take route 1. Route 1 is easier but slow. The other 2 can get you lost if you miss any turn, unless you have a person familiar with the routing.

Thanks Jason. I found your route in the map: Exit E2 at Ayer Hitam, and take RT50 (Jln Batu Pahat), which joins E3 at Mersing. Tuas to Kuantan: 400km.

Alternatively, E2 exit to RT 23 (Jln Muar) at Tangkak, and join RT 12 at Segamat. It adds 17km to above rotue. I am not sure which one your took.

According to my map, your route is: Exit E2 to join E5, which becomes RT 28, and it joins E8 (Karak HW) after 25km. Tuas to Kuantan: 580km

Thanks! According to my map, your are referring to E2 exit at Yong Peng to RT1 which connects to RT12 at Segamat, then connects RT 2 at Gamgang (or connects to E8 thereafter). Tuas to Kuantan: 375km

Standard route via E3, RT 17, then to RT 3, and all the way up to Kuantan (via Mersing) takes 355km. However, I have going into nasti traffic (without any incident) at RT 17, so, I would be bypassing it (unless early morning) by going up on E3 to Senai side, then connecting to E22 and RT 3, which adds another 14km.

Let me know if I misinterpret what you said

Re: Route from Singapore to Kuantan - options?

dont cha wanna gamble at Genting before heading to the beach at Kuantan to see boring pregnant turtles? Take Karak Highway!

Re: Route from Singapore to Kuantan - options?

sg -> genting -> karak -> kuantan

karak highway also got good scenery but the drive would not be as nice as mersing b-roads

Re: Route from Singapore to Kuantan - options?

This is what I usually do to track towards Kuantan, which is also towards Genting Highlands.

1. Take North South Highway, all the way to KL toll.
2. Once you paid your toll as KL, keep left and you will see CHERAS
3. Head along CHERAS and you will automatically join Kuantan.

Follow these steps and I guaranteed you won't get lost.

Re: Route from Singapore to Kuantan - options?

Great. One more question: if we are driving for scenary (not for gambling :) ), and also if hoping to drive at the speed limit (not at 160 :) ), which road is recommended?
1. Taking RT 3 via Kota Tinggi and Mersing?
2. Taking NSE, exit to RT 50, then join RT 3 at Mersing
3. Taking NSE, and go via RT 12 to join E8 or RT 2 closer to Kuantan?

I suspect the answer is 2, assuming the scenery starts after Mersing. Am I correct?
Thanks!

Hi, I'm new here, and still looking for BatMan... :)
WE plan to Kuantan in August but due to 7th month we postpone to no date.

Just share with you on the route 2, it should be exit 242 at Yong Peng South, turn left to YP town till a Y junction (Police station right infornt) traffic light, takes right side continue to Segamat. All the way to Labis you'll need to keep left. After Segamat, you'll need to turn right towards Kuantan. This is quite a nice road compare Tangkak to Segamat and shorter distance.

I tried Karak before, will never try again due to distance.

Our plan is JB-KT (Kota Tinggi)-Mersing-Kuantan-Segamat-Yong Peng-JB
reason being, morning drive from JB to Mersing the traffic condition is fine, with some scenery along coastal drive.

raning or not still depend on luck, I ever went there in December, but during my 4D3N stay sunny or cloudy. After we pack & leave hotel, raining..

cheers.

I was hoping to do the same route except wondering whether it is a good idea to bypass Kota Tinggi area by exiting NSE at Ayer Hitam to RT 50, and joining RT 3 at Mersing (because I will be coming in from the second link)

Thanks

OIC, or you want to try 2nd Link, exit to Johor Bahru/Pasir Gudang, all the way untill you pass the NSH (overhead) and see exit to Kota Tinggi? That will join you back to KT. (same exit to Jusco Tebrau)

If normal weekend, Causeway is okay, except school holiday. (last Sunday from Woodlands to 2nd Link Petronas took me 40 mins only, passed checkpoint at 7 am)

Thanks! Last time I took that route but traffic jam on RT 17 (Lebuhraya Pasir Gudang) was terrible (between Tampoi and Pandan area), and it was holding me about 45 minutes. There was no accident or anything - traffic just wouldn't move!

It was a Saturday morning around 9am. I assume it won't be that bad if we are passing the area around 7-8am.

Normally it shouldn't that bad especially weekend, unless special event in JB/MY. what I know, last 2 weeks very bad traffic due to Hari Raya.

ermm, when you plan to go? wowo might want to join you. :)

Re: Route from Singapore to Kuantan - options?

from tuas checkpoint, join the NSH - E2 up towards KL. when reaching KL, looking out for route E8 towards kuantan. drive on that and you will reach. quite straight forward.
