Was up in BOLEH land yesterday, received a friend's call telling me tht his rim was broken.. I rushed down to the workshop and this was the result!!!

It was used on a MB W211..

How it happen:
He was travellin at about 50km/h when he hit a stone..THIS was the result..

Lucky he wasnt on a highway...

Re: risk of having REPLICA rims!!!

WOW! If he was driving faster, the manage might have been very serious.

Re: risk of having REPLICA rims!!!

holy crap looks like it got opened with a can-opener!

Re: risk of having REPLICA rims!!!

Tht's why u guys should better go for ORIGINAL or WELL KNOWN brands instead of saving money and go for REPLICA..

Re: risk of having REPLICA rims!!!

Wow !!! power stone!!. I supposed he should go back to the seller and make claims from them.. really no conscience leh.. :ultrasho:

Re: risk of having REPLICA rims!!!

scary ....was still thinking of changing to replica 18" ......better stick to my origina one ....simi stone ah , i tink is a rock .....

Re: risk of having REPLICA rims!!!

Is SSW rims considered replica? saw their Mega Sales ads, and was thinking maybe can try. after seeing this thread, got abit scare.

Re: risk of having REPLICA rims!!!

sometime back they also have this problem with SEVAS forged wheels... quite a well known brand from US...

i think it happened on a 7er... badly damaged...

Re: risk of having REPLICA rims!!!

Look at the thickness of the wall. That's really thin!! Not surprising that it ripped open like a tin can.

With the aim of reducing weight there's so much you can do without reducing material thickness and volume.

Re: risk of having REPLICA rims!!!

wow really scary.
anyway this is the result of compettion, high returned(cheap at cost) high risk.
but from the pciture look like some curbing on the rim lip,did the car hit any hole or skidded?
this could due to result of hitting the curb caused the rim to break like that.
or due to rim broken and hit th curb?
MY UNDERSTANDING that is also replica rim quality vary from diff factory
ANy way premium quality wheels undergone strict R&D will not result like this.
again you pay peanut you get monkey.
You go to Monkey shop you only need to pay peanut

Re: risk of having REPLICA rims!!!

i think it all depends on the factory that mfr them. I have a fren who is using original Merc rim, cracked and out of shape after hiiting the curb. Maybe at a higher speed.

Robert is right that you pay peanut gets monkey but sometime peanuts can be expensive...600k.
get it? :)

Re: risk of having REPLICA rims!!!

I DON'T AGREE THAT THIS CAN ONLY HAPPEN WITH REPLICA RIMS.

HERE ARE PICTURES OF MY 17IN RIMS WITH 235/45 TIRES. THOSE ARE VERY THICK TIRES.

TAKE NOTE OF THE BRAND!
