Rims help - Asian vs European?

Hi guys,

Need your opinion on something. I would like to go for some aftermarket 18" rims on my E39. However, the original BMW and euro tuner rims are all out of my budget. And second hands are hard to find.

So, i'm left with either Taiwan / Thailand type replicas or those replicas from Italy. For those rims manufactured in Asia, its generally lighter while those from Europe have passed TUV and also i presume more durable. But they are very heavy. What do you all think?

Has anyone tried the SSW brand?

TUV approved is just one of them. U might want to know that there's another equally important certifying body like JWL which u can see on the rim itself ( embossed )

So it aint really matter if it's asian, european or american made rims.
It all boils downs to personal preferences. If u are talkin bout Japanese rims for example, thhey make superb rims in terms of quality, strength and durabiltiy. Brands in mind incl RAYS, Prodrive, Neez, Advan etc.

Regarding SSW rims. These are rims made by Stamford Tires company. The factory is in Thailand as far as I can remember. They are also JWL certified. Price is much cheaper vs the european/american made but probably comparable with the Taiwanese ones.

hi hublot, i'd love to get those rims but unfortunately they wont fit my car as those are for 3 series! thanks though.

Triple M, thanks for the advice. I guess theres just a lot of choice in the market, so i guess ill just choose whichever design with tickles my fancy!

very nice. hmmm yes BBS probably made RKIIs for E39s but they come with different offsets from those that fit e46. E39 offset should be ET20 or so. ill ask around anyway. thanks.

Btwn, wat kind of rim u loooking for? 5 spoke? double spoke? or..?? Can share with me ur idea?

still deciding but i really want m5 rims (e39 m5 that is), or something that looks like bbs LM, or breyton spirits. you?

I like the star spokes the best from you showed. Hamanns are nice but too common.

Yup i like the third. Does anyone here know where has the most stock of ssw or asa rims for bmws?
