i was wondering whether i can get another 30hp just by removing my catalytic converter.

330i..u will gain about 15 hp..if u get sports headers n a sports exhaust....u prob gain 5hp by removing cats alone...no prob with removing it though...cept ur car will sound like 6cylinder motorbike.

another option is to look for a sport cat that has lesser cells than the stock ones
dunno if it is available already..my guess is Supersprint will be one of the mainstream ones

no need to get ultra expensive supersprint cats, local exhaust shops like Man Exhaust will sell those funny funny brand hi-flow cats for about $200 each only. either way, it'll be illegal and will fail inspection.

on a serious note... the Valvetronic headers have the cats attached to it.. or almost.. i already asked MAN before... whether can remove or just put race cats.. no use.. wanna change, have to lan lan.. wait for RHD headers to come out..
and that means, wait for Mr. HIOP to finish his german bratwurst, and start workin... wait la...
In the mean time, to extract more power fr the exhaust side, ur only choice is from cat back onwards...which Supersprint has...
