Remove spacers before sending to PML for servicing?

Need to send my car in for servicing and fixing some sound in the rear wheel (where I have spacers). Do you guys recommend removing the spacers before sending in to PMl since the work will be done under warranty. Worry they'll complain about the spacers and say they can't repair.

Thanks,

Re: Remove spacers before sending to PML for servicing?

stefman, it really depends. i have came across cases where the CSA is kind enough to ask u to remove it before coming back for an inspection and he will consider it under warranty. some would void warranty if it is determined that its the spacers thats causing noise.

don't border. just send it in. if the CSA complaint, i introduce mine.

introduce outside workshop or what? i think if the initial CSA records it in the system, then very hard to argue liao

Stefano, you will be at the mercy of the CSA if the spacers are left on...... the last thing you wanna hear is PML putting the blame on the spacers for the sound. On a separate note, how did you ascertain that the sound is not coming from the spacers?

Thanks everyone, the spacers are coming off.

Kenneth, the sound is from the brakes, not the spacers. I guess they'll take off the wheel and blame the spacers for a brake problem.

Re: Remove spacers before sending to PML for servicing?

stef u just reminded me. r the noises comning from the rear a screeching squeeking kinda sound? coz if it is then its natural after changing after market rims. spoke to the CSa once and he said it happens to 9 out of 10 bimmers. cant explain why this is so but certainly nothing serious. it happens to my car as well, but only when it is just moving off in the morning. after the brakes warm up the sound is gone. if this is the exact issue u have, then u got nothing to fear.

Re: Remove spacers before sending to PML for servicing?

i've gone into pml without ever removing my spacers and had noisy rear brake problems (just a pad replacement apparently) corrected without any issue.

it may just be my csa. pm me if you need his name.

i've went to complaint about my rear rolling noise recently as well. it turns out to be the rear hand-brake shoe contacting with the MODs 335i rear brakes while accelerate and not braking. PML CSA told me mine its mods part so they can't do anything. i lan lan. however, the CSA also told me that many 335i owner facing the same problem, so it seems like its the OEM BMW parts issues. even u need to bang the table u got get them fix it.

Note that this is not equivocal to PML conceding responsibility for OEM parts issues.....

in my case, PML will not honor it. because there is a part weld onto the rotor. even its done like SIMON's car with all OEM parts they still will not honor the warranty. unless its changed at PML workshop which i checked with them before they will not do it at all.

That's exactly what I meant. They will nickpick any aftermarket mods when possible....... and it's so hard to tell what constitutes an alteration which voids warranty.....

its easy. any cosmetic mods is fine. wheels r fine as well until it damages brakes or fenders, which is unlikely. brakes or suspensions even if its OEM, if not meant for that model (fitting 325 onto 320), will also be void.

thats basically rule of thumb. sucky but true.

Kenn, if a PML 335 with stock OEM 335i rear brakes had noise i don't see PML will be anal to nickpick you've change DPE + coilovers than they will do nothing to your noise. they have to honor the service. unless you've change aftermarket Brembo or someother stuff then they will nickpick because its not their work and parts why should they be honoring it? another views, assuming you mod to BMW performance brake kit but you didn't fit it at PML, its the same stories that they will nickpick because its not workmanship which i feel its right.

Re: Remove spacers before sending to PML for servicing?

Wow, you are all according such good faith in PML.

I personally had bad experience with them in my first e46 sedan, where they voided my brake warranty because of my Hamann wheels. Bullshit reason - inter-related parts, PG2 wheels causing additional "stress" on castor and hence brakes malfunctioning. I went back to BVO, Ah Wee simply change to a pair of braided hoses.

My experience - they will say whatever they wanna say, as long as they can find reasons to say it. So, for myself, if a need to claim warranty, I personally will not gamble on that and let them catch me. I will make sure they have nothing to say.

Re: Remove spacers before sending to PML for servicing?

i agreed with you that agent can be as anal as they could be because they CAN. bottom line customer satisfaction counts. PML had to review the warranty and service policy or else they will go BOOMZ, u know u know... sometime i think its the CSA being lazy to read justification letter for your warranty.
