Regarding changing E90's headunit

Hi all,

I intend to change the original headunit to Pioneer P80, which is currently on my car. Will there be any problem changing to aftermarket headunit like loss of functionality etc? Will there be any complications?

I find the headunit ugly, and dont think it can produce any better music than aftermarket headunit right? I mean not just the headunit, I will add in all the amps, woofer and speakers etc as well...

Will owners of E90 320i please enlighten me?

Thanks!

Vince

Re: Regarding changing E90's headunit

Hi Coldcar,

There should be no problem changing the headunit and putting stuffs into the car. However, there are a few things u have to note.

1. An improper installation may screw up ur electronics.
2. PML may not provide warranty to any electrical failure as they can blame it on the installation of the sound system.
3. If u r installing a full system, there MAY be a need to drill or cut part of ur car, especially the A-pillar or doors to accomodate some of the speakers.

If u r still cool with all these, u should try to look for an installer with the relevant experience and expertise to do BMW. There are quite a number of installers that can do this. However, different ppl have different preferences. I did mine at New Generation. U may want to ask around and check with the various installers. Go with a reputable one and the one u r comfortable with. :)

one very important thing to note also.

keep the original headunit somewhere. PML needs it to run diagnostics.
