Reason why does ppl sell their BMW

Hi all,

My first post. Sourcing around for cars for quite a while but has more or less settled for a 523 or 525 in the 2nd hand market. Was quite surprise to see quite a number of 5s on sale. Some were less than 2 years old. Anyone can enlighten me why is this so. Something about the car? 5s a good car but why is ppl selling them so early?

no money lor...owe ah long money..so sell. like me..declare bankrupt. gal friend run away with best friend. even my pet dog pee on my leg. luck is down. when i walk on the street only raining on top of me...the guy walking 3 m next to me wearing sun glasses some more. even walking in takashimaya, got crow fly in n shit on my head.

Then can i ask you something personal. What did you do to your car before you sell it away. As in how do you treat it. If the previous owner rammed the engine like mad, the new owner will buy the "rammed" BMW right.

whats your point? i love my cars...i take care of them. i may drive my car hard..just like i may just cruise in it at times....but it doesnt mean i thrash it. if u r worried about that..then buy a new car. if u r buying 2nd hand..there is always a risk.

but again..what is your point?

Yah, understand there is always a risk with second hands. But the irony for me is that buying nearly new cars are more economical but just worried that the previous owner did not take good care of it and I would not be able to know whats wrong under the bonnet.

well, buying new cars can be a bit of lottery too... when the e90 was launched initially, there were quite a few lemons... if you read some of the posts here u'll see...

with pre-owned cars, you're just worried about bad accidents and neglected cars without proper service...buying them from dealers usually mean they have time to cover up with fresh paint and fixes to the nicks, if you buy it from owners themselves u'll have to be a good judge of character...

either way, its a matter of paying out right or later... if you go with a new car, you're paying monthly .... if you go with a used car, u'll pay each time it surprises you...

sometimes the "discount" for pre-owned cars also mean a discount in your preference, exterior colour, interior colour, etc... sometimes transfer fees narrows the gap such that its not worth the risk...

question is which are you comfortable with...

If you serious about buying 2nd hand cars, check out PPSL (www.ppsl.com.sg). Though they are a little more expensive, they do quite a thorough check and they do not accept accident cars, which is a bonus.

Nothing wrong. Some people just like to change cars. Not too long ago, I recalled a ONE-MONTH old 330i was offered. Who was that huh ?

I think the cars are made much better these days...I am sure they can withstand some form of torture....

In any case, i won't buy a car that cannot be driven fast once in a while. What happen when i am late for appointment? it will happen once in a while mah

I agree that PPSL would be a good place to start if you're a bit more concerned about the condition of a used BMW. Prices are generally slightly higher than the market but if you happen to be in a 'good luck' situation, you may be able to land a good car at a good price (eg, they're clearing the showroom for a new batch of used cars).

As to why people change cars so quickly... I guess it's a Singaporean thing? I've had so many friends remark that they need to get a new car and when I ask them how old their current ride is, it's usually just 2-3 years....

Well.... it is not jsut a singaporean thing to get new cars. Believe me.. i always try to get second hands, or cars that has just got a new model, and i will try to get an old one for a cheaper price.

But when i was shopping around.... a 1 year old 320 (E90)... usually asking price is about $110k to $115k depending on the mileage. If i slap on another $2k for transfer fee, the price differences between a used and a new is not that great.

Which is why i find that these days, it is not worth getting a second hand anymore... sellers are not realistic....

they like to buy 520..sian already after 1 month,chance to 523..then to 525..then to 530..then to 540..then to M5..hehehe thats why u see so many cars for sale..maybe its all the same first owner..haa

I agree, i read an article on BMW in a magazine, and its customer base are what you might call "upgraders".

BMW buyers are deemed to be moving up in their careers (and incomes) steadily and thus the opportunity of changing cars is much higher than with the budget brands, simply because they can afford to do it.

I have friends who change their BMW cars quite regularly every 2 yrs, from 3 to 5 to 7, then to a 6, then to a Cabrio, then back to a 5. Go-getters love variety.
