Does anyone have problems with an incessant rattling or creaking noise when driving the E46 cabrio? It's getting on my nerves and PML claims that it is normal.
It's normal coz afterall it's an independent hydraullic operated top cover supported by some joints.
It's however, not so much heard in a roadster mainly because the top cover is smaller
Thanks for your quick reply. That explains why I didn't hear it so much when I had a Z3. But is there a way to suppress it? For instance, by oiling certain crucial parts?
That is the reason why i finally chose the coupe over the cabrio. Don't know about here but i've read on other forums that the dealer can apply some sort of thing (sorry, really can't remember what it is) to silence the creaking.
It's not as bad as it seems when you turn on your stereo, or next best thing - drive open top. PML typically will spray silicon to reduce it, I think......someone needs to confirm that. It is no biggy as I had worst from my previous cab rides - Miata & S2K.
At low speed along uneven roads, there is a continuous rattling sound from the right side that can be quite irritating. I tried spraying some silicone lubricant (which I got from Home-Fix) over the weekend but the sound is still there. Don't know whether I am spraying in the right place. Sometimes when the car is stationary, I can hear a soft rattling sound coming from the back as well. Only when I am in "D". Once I switch to "N", the sound goes away (probably because the car doesn't vibrate so much). I've removed my toolkit, emptied my boot and removed all small items from my car so that I can reduce the noice level but it's still bugging me no end. Are all these normal? I'm going mad.
Normal. And some cab rattles more than others. For instance, Alvin666's 04 cab rattles more than my 02 cab. It is just not comprehensible. Live with it.
Bro...with ur car... dont have to go top down la... just blast out "NUMB" while driving n Ramming ur monster ard can oredi la... definitely cannot hear squeaks... hahaha
eagle
got 3 friednds with the sme model E46 cabrio... same complains la... however the guy driving the 330 claims no squeaking noises leh... Strange la. "Lubricate" often n like wat Ken said..."live with it la..."
Dnt borther abt lubricating it, 2 later the sound will come back. No ned send to PML to fix too cos they might readjust the alignment of the softop, after tat u might have a problm when raining cos water leaks in. My rattalin sound nt so bad previously but after i add in the strut bar anti-roll bar then the sound bcome worst!! Live wif it! Nt all cars can produce tis kind of 'sound' woh, only a softop! kekeke
The squeaking of my cab became worst on the right side after installation of V-kool. I wondered whether the slight extra layer had caused more squeaks. The "cure" for me is to lower the glass and then squeeze the rubber seals running along the top part of the window frame. Works for about one trip
Yes Alvin, the ARB clanging is another thing altogether
