Rapid-fire clicking noise (E85 Z4 3.0)....

I've recently taken over a Z4 and there's this strange clicking noise that comes on for anything between 1-3 seconds, usually after I turn the engine off. It has also come on just as I unlock and board the car on occasion. It appears to be coming from somewhere behind the central air-con vents.

Anyone else has the same experience or can shed some light on what on earth that noise is?
