Questions

Hi Guys, I have a few questions to enquire:-

1) my engine oil indicator lighted up today and I called the BMW 24hours service hotline and they told me that for every 5-6km, there might be a need to top up engine oil as this is standard in all BMW cars. He came down and showed me through the indicator, I need to top up 1ltr of oil as shown. Is it true that I need to top up every 5-6km?

2) may I know what mileage is the 1st servicing? As mine is 9100km and I told the person that I'm gg down for 10km servicing as advice by my SA when I first bought the car. But he told me through the indicator my engine oil can still last for another 10000km. Which means I will only go for my 1st service when mileage hits 19000km. I am very confused.

Can anyone please advice me. Thank you for your time reading this thread. Greatly appreciated.

My ride is a 09 Dec 320I LCI.

Re: Questions

go for your service at 10,000km as advice by SA

is normal to top up some engine oil in between service as long as it is not excessive or too frequent like every 2~3km

the mobile mech probably meant if you don't do anything, the remainder engine oil can still last you another 10,000km (although it is highly not advisable)

jebbo, listen to your SA, not the 24hr service guy, regarding oil change. Just my 2 cents.

To be sure, you can go through the owner's manual and follow step by step to check your OBC - the service indicator will tell you when you should go for your next / first servicing.
I will be surprised if a 2009 e90's OBC tells you to do first oil service at 19,000km. This may be the case for older e90 when they cock up the servicing schedule and resulted in oil sludge in the engine, but this has since been corrected in later batch of e90. So your service mileage should be lower than 19,000km as per your OBC, if I am not wrong. Nonetheless, do let me know if I am wrong after you check your OBC. Me still learning btw.

Dear Bro,

go for your engine oil change. I did mine (new e90) at 8k but i just did it at a workshop outside. Anyway it is just a oil change and a oil filter so I do not see why i should wait 1 whole day for PML. Since my last oil change, my obc has not shown any signals for engine oil change and its running at 14k now. No top up needed too!

hope the above helps.

Re: Questions

Thanks to all the bros who replied me. I've book an appointment for the 10k servicing at PML after heeding ur advice. Will be sending ride down in 2weeks time. Thanks for the advice. I found it funny as the tech guy says that the engine oil can last me for another 10000km when my mileage was at 9000++. This incident makes me think how well train these guys are. Hmm.

Re: Questions

When I started the engine on my previous ride (E90 320 LCI), it will show how many km to go before the next servicing. It started with 12k when brand new. Then, the number will go down as you clock in more distance. The same applies for my existing ride (E92 325 LCI.)

I personally follow this as a guideline on when to schedule for the next servicing. I also know for a fact that there are some people here who change the oil and filter at outside workshop in between servicing at PML. E.g. changeoil at outside workshop at 6k, then change oil at PML at 12k, then change oil at outside workshop again at 18k, and so on.

Which one to follow? It's really up to the individual I guess...as mentioned, for me, I stick to the servicing every 12k mainly because it's quite a hassle in my opinion to do servicing period. The less often I need to do...the happier I am...but that's just me...

But after few days of driving, my mileage still remains at 10000km to next servicing. Why is it so if u says that the mileage will go down if u drive. Maybe mine got problem?? Pls advice. Thank u.

Re: Questions

the service indicator is countdown by the ecu.
if your car is drive gently and the engine condition is good, the countdown will be slower
for example, service indicator shows 10,000 ... you travel 1,000 milleage ... it still show 10,000 but after you travel 1200-1300km, then the indicator drop to 9,000. this means the extra 200-300km is gain because the engine perform good and did not get dirty as fast as 'expected' (so to speak)

Re: Questions

Dear All

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I can't seem to post a new thread, but I really am in need of some advice.
I just got my 318 LCI today from Performance Motors. When I drove out of the showroom, I notice the following:

1) The car seems quite reluctant to upshift to the 2nd gear. The odometer has to go to almost 4000rpm before the engine is willing to upshift to 2nd gear.

2) As the car is coming to a stop, i can feel the car shuddering and the shuddering continues for a couple of seconds when it has stopped.

Are the above 2 symptoms normal or its a warning of bigger problems?
I did not remember experiencing these 2 phenomenon when I test drove the car.
Thanks for the advice

Re: Questions

bring it back to PML immediately and bang table to do a thorough check
you pay good money for the car considering PML handsome profit margin
since you just GOT your car, assuming very new, demand for courtesy car or taxi voucher !

Bro, when dealing with PML I've learnt to be very patient, persistent and never to give up harassing them. Our cars with warranty should be taken good care and replace, repair if any problems within the 3 years. If your SA isn't competent, just request for a change. I am speaking for experience.

Bro,

def not right for a new car! get back to PML but make sure you have solid feel and evidence. If it comes on and off then you are in a bigger shit ....i hope all the best for you.

Bro, nothing is free. They will make you leave your car there for 2-3 days. Then when you collect your car, they will say it is standard BMW problem, nothing can be done. Well, not to scare you, at least the tea, coffee, biscuits are free. Hehe.

Aiyah bro,

i am not the one having the issue. You are mistaken. I mean i am sending in my car to PML for normal service. Mine is free as i still have service vouchers. By the way, i have experienced their style already as i send in once for a overall check and they took the whole day. (nothing done just check...omg)

Cheers!
