Questions on E39

Hi Guys, I've just bought a 2003 E39, and have some questions and hope someone here can help:

1. Check Park Lights Error Message
I keep seeing this error message on the dash board, and have checked all my lights but all are working well! Park lights are the reverse lights right? Anyone here has the same experience?

2. Loud fan noise from the engine
Every once in a while, I can here a fan noise from the engine compartment that is very loud, sounds like a plane or something. The noise comes on and off without much logic. Anyone knows what's happening?

Thanks for viewing and appreciate any comments on this

Re: Questions on E39

Park lights are the "angel eyes" -- first clockwise stop on your headlight switch, before the main headlights come on. One of the bulbs may be blown (don't forget to check the rear and license plate lights too).

The loud noise is probably the auxillary fan cutting in, depending on a lot of factors. No harm getting PML or one of the usual workshops to check things out. They can diagnose any problems in a few minutes with their diagnostic kit.

Re: Questions on E39

Hi foxfrc5,

Thanks for the reply.

I have checked all the lights again today, and apparently all are working well! Very strange...

As to the loud noise, I have checked with one of the workshops (not PML) and they told me that it is normal as the fan will turn on if the engine gets too hot. But the noise is very loud, sounds like a plane! I just find it very strange and checking if anyone here has the same experience.

Thanks.

buy back lor..i sell u mine at bro bro price :nehnehhh:

Re: Questions on E39

yep its the aux fan cutting in to cool engine down when it gets too hot
aux fan is parasitic & robs the engine of power
u can try out: when u hear aux fan try accelerating car & you'll find that its very sluggish
to get rid of this u need to go for an electric fan conversion which will
convert the aux fan to run off battery & not the engine ;-)
