Questions from a new E90 Owner

Hi all, i am a proud E90 owner but have some queries to the excellent car which i hope that the "old birds" here can help to answer:

1. When travelling in low speed from stationary, a jerk is felt. Is this normal?
2. When changing gear from D to P or N to P, a loud thud is heard. Normal?
3. Will warranty of the car be voided if we do not bring the car back for servicing? I am considering to install CNG as my mileage is extremely high due to the nature of my work.

cant answer, never experience b4. but my car jerks when im in stationary think due to m'sian petrol i think. =P

2. When changing gear from D to P or N to P, a loud thud is heard. Normal?

this is definitely normal as i think it is the sound of the clutch plates. correct me if im wrong guys.

3. Will warranty of the car be voided if we do not bring the car back for servicing? I am considering to install CNG as my mileage is extremely high due to the nature of my work.

i think it will be voided if you dun go back to service. you can enquire about the cng though. go "PUAY" your way thru.

my 2cts
cheers

Re: Questions from a new E90 Owner

1. Never had that problem.
2. Yes it is normal, well at least mine is like that too.
3. Yes, I think warranty will be void if you don't go in for scheduled servicing. However, I go outside for in between servicing and so far they ignore it or don't know.

yap the e90 tranny sucks...jerky. if u do a search here or e90post.com u will realise u not alone.

2. When changing gear from D to P or N to P, a loud thud is heard. Normal?

less tendency if u completely stop n do a short pause b4 shifting...again tranny issues

3. Will warranty of the car be voided if we do not bring the car back for servicing? I am considering to install CNG as my mileage is extremely high due to the nature of my work.

confirmed void. maybe u ve bot the wrong car for your nature of work...fuel economy is never a selling factor for bmw. anyway worth u trust your expensive car in the hands of a local CNG assembler? i for sure wont...but will only buy if it comes stock from factory. if it's a jap car not problem...not a bmw

Re: Questions from a new E90 Owner

1. My car had experienced a jerk when the car slows down to a stop, and the gear shifting up was also not smooth. I sent it back to PML and they fixed it.
2. stop car completely before changing, you should experience less of the thud sound
3. CNG? wow, major mod!

Re: Questions from a new E90 Owner

hi all,

Thanks for the answers. Looks like i cannot change my ride with mod. But any major problems with the car so far? The cost of fuel is killing me as i travel quite alot - 30km to 40km per yr. Need to balance the cost of warranty and fuel..

Re: Questions from a new E90 Owner

Hi Resol200,

I get the thud sound too, I have asked the service adviser to look at it before but this seemed to be a "feature". One of the biggest problem I had was that the car stalled on me thrice: hard acceleration, then brake... the car stalled (engine shut down). Fortunately all 3 time in front of traffic light. It was fixed by the latest firmware update. As for jerkiness upon deceleration, it could be the adaptive driving. You can have it reset during service.

Re: Questions from a new E90 Owner

i faced the same problem once. the car died on me when travelling from stationary. So it's a known problem. must ask to upgrade the firmware. Thanks.
