hey erm guys, how long normally do u guys top up ur radiator water? as in every week or longer? thanks for the information!

Re: questions for E36 316i owners~

actually no need to top up radiator water that often.
if u are doing that, chances are there's a leak somewhere

Re: questions for E36 316i owners~

go for a leakage test.... easily done
but changing the radiator can be pretty cumbersome...

Re: questions for E36 316i owners~

change radiator very easy one lah.
quite fast job, prob is determining the cause of the leak.
sometimes, it might not be the radiator itself. could be a leak somewhere in the water return system or a faulty seal. less siong on the wallet then

Re: questions for E36 316i owners~

i mean ownself do loh! hahaha..... low bdget way!

Re: questions for E36 316i owners~

i never once top up myself past 6.5yrs & BVO only check whether level is ok every servicing. I take it as E36 not suppose to top up radiator water unless is already leaking. Get it repair if u need top up often.

Re: questions for E36 316i owners~

i've just changed my radiator 3 days ago as it was worse previously but now is like getting much much better just tht the water level still going down bit by bit daily.. any suggestion on whats going on with it?

Re: questions for E36 316i owners~

probably a leakage somewhere, get it checked.

leakage is probably from what sszone said. not sure whether e36 has an expansion tank, but don't think so.

Re: questions for E36 316i owners~

check the radiator pipes, water pump and the seals. those may be the cause too.

Re: questions for E36 316i owners~

check the radiator cap as the seal might be spoil

Re: questions for E36 316i owners~

alrite really thanks alot guys for the information!

Re: questions for E36 316i owners~

did u hand itchy add any new type of coolant, other than BMW or water.
me did that previously, end up one of those return line caps which was rusting, leaked after adding that coolant.
as for radiator cap, u can take it out and turn it over, see whether the rubber ring thingy still complete.

Re: questions for E36 316i owners~

oh no no.. this is a new radiator i've added coolant just for bmw.. HAHA

Re: questions for E36 316i owners~

so the likely culprit is somewhere in the coolant return system.
if every week or fortnightly have to topup, confirm got leak somewhere.
if u are free, go workshop raise up the car and have a look from below.
go find Bro Collin check for u lah...keke

sszone, erm.. i'm kinda new here i dunno who is who u see? lol hope to be introduced to more ppl through u.. thanks buddy!

Re: questions for E36 316i owners~

go to meet up... u know who and who loh
u better have it checked!! radiator cap is the easiest to check and simplest to replace
cos when the temp rises, hot steam will be shooting off the cap from the high pressure inside

also check for the little cap screw at the side to be properly tightened... not sure what its called but normally used to bleed extra coolant!!

cheers - hope it helps!
