Question for everyone who doesn't go to track.

Hi all,

Just curious on everyone in the forum - regardless of whether you modify your car or keep it stock... but choose not, or is not certain whether to go to any of our track days.

It'd be great to hear your feedback and to see whether we can work with our partners to make a track day session an enjoyable one for you. Contrary to most beliefs, a track day session can be safe, not damaging to your car and more importantly improve your driving skills in a safe, controlled environment.

What are your biggest reasons for not attending?

Reasons can span from "oh it's too costly, not safe, too long, too far, my car isn't fast enough, warranty issues, reliability issues, perceived dangers, dates are not convenient etc etc"

And what reasons would make you attend a track day? This could be weekend trackdays, a dedicated support team etc.. If it makes sense, we can push for one/hire a team for each track day we do.

Let's hear your reasons :)

Re: Question for everyone who doesn't go to track.

scared car spoil cannot come back

Re: Question for everyone who doesn't go to track.

Biggest worry is wear and tear! every track session burns a hole in my pocket esp for tyres/brakes :(

Re: Question for everyone who doesn't go to track.

No Race Queen...

Re: Question for everyone who doesn't go to track.

for me its the 300km distance...my car will overheat on the NS highway..

happened when i drove to KL...

cant wait for the local track....
2nd is the date commitment

i like the idea of a sudden impulse on a working day afternoon 'lets hit the track now' and can go about doing it straightaway..

Re: Question for everyone who doesn't go to track.

initially my main fears:

the long drive up
mileage on car
dunno anyone
lack of track knowledge

BUT
the biggest fear for me was INTIMIDATION. i was terrible afraid of high powered cars. i felt naked and insecure with them whizzing past me luffing at my small cock....something like dat.

u know...it may be an idea to have a TD totally for cars that are 300hp n below AND for newbies in this forum in any bmw. ban the porkys! and the stupid lambos. let the newbie rip....

Re: Question for everyone who doesn't go to track.

actually with critical mass, anything is possible. We can even have a complete newbie track session where the more experienced ones can guide the newbies and get them comfortable with the sport.

And the truth is, without Jack's contacts and PCS cars participation, more often than not our track days cannot happen. BMWSG bmws usually account for a quarter to less than half the attendees.

It's not easy for the organisers to up their game and provide better service/ organisation, without the critical mass being hit. But I'm sure if we keep up at it, there's going to soon be a sizeable mass interested in the sport to keep this activity alive. Until such time, we do need the porsches to keep the track days afloat. Actually it's been like this since 2003/04 when we first started, and Ngee Seng had to share half the track day with PCS, to make up the numbers.

My cars all cannot track.... last time e46 cabrio, now a pariah engine scorned by purists, tracked 1 round overheat, waste of time still must hear all sorts lanjiao wei ..... play with Suzuki Swift and Jazz and Fit in carpark can lah...... happy can liao, go home still can sleep without worrying about warranties....

Maybe get a properly set-up car to track next time.

But please, hopefully no feeling of intimidation lah. Now macham supercar track day, go also scared...... friendly friendly best.....

BTW, those who has tracked but stopped for a long time, what happened to them?

Good idea.. make it 250hp and below :D

Re: Question for everyone who doesn't go to track.

1) Fear of faster cars
2) Worry of hassle if car breakdown

Re: Question for everyone who doesn't go to track.

Free only in the night - A night track day ?

Perhaps at Changi next year where its nearer ?

Re: Question for everyone who doesn't go to track.

We have a bro with E36 316.....track with us & he enjoyed so much!

There are always some faster cars, it's never who is better or who's car have 1000bhp.....we're there to enjoy pure driving & enjoy watching, listening to those nicer roars of those exotic cars that some of us will never be able to afford.....

There will always be newbies....whether they drive a E90 318 or 997 GT3.....if you dun even dare to join us at the tracks, you'll never get to feel how it feels like......

Wear & tear is part of it, you can drive like Miss Daisy in the tracks, wear & tear is the same as driving on the streets here....ofcourse, if you want F&F, then it'll be higher.

Been tracking with BMWSG track days most of the time, it's safe & well organised.

Kudos to Jack & Shawn! It's not easy for them to do this!

Track days for old cars possible ? Those with 100k km+ and above qualifies. Haven't seen any old lambos before so maybe it'll be ok ....................

Ofcourse!

As long as the car is checked for vital failure signs.....

Shits happens sometimes, just have to have an open mind.....

Car can break down at your own carpark also!

Just join us in the next BMWSG track days & U'll be hooked!

Talk is cheap, scared of this & that......:boring:

Re: Question for everyone who doesn't go to track.

IMO there are mainly two types of car enthusiast, one loves car and the other loves driving. People who track their car often are more enthusiastic about driving. My initial fear before I tracked my cars was car damages. I think everyone knows tracking a car does suffer more wear and tear to mechanical parts and cosmetic damages.

Tracking can be fun in any car, it's about exploring a car's limits safely in a controlled environment. I have tracked a low power Toyota MR-S to a Noble M400 and had fun in all of them. Going to track is about turning fast and exploring individual car's characteristics, no so much about straights. If straights are your thing, then driving on NSHW should suffice.
