Question for E90 with Progressive ME

Hi, any folks experience in this?

(1) Are "hub rings" neccessary for the 19" Progressive ME on E90? I seen the tyre shop slapped hub ring on the car before mounting the rims.

(2) My car was fine for 1 day. But after yesterday big rain and travelling in deep water, the rear wheel makes a high pitch sound whenever i soft brake to a complete stop now. Since this occur after 2 days on new wheels, i co-related it to a wheel problem, any experience?

Re: Question for E90 with Progressive ME

Mine was purchased and installed at Leong Seng. They cld have used hub rings. I am not sure.

No whining sound whatsoever after rain.

Yours cld be a one-off install issue. Why not bring back and let the installer check?

Re: Question for E90 with Progressive ME

Went back to installer (which is also LS), they say the sounds were made by the brakes as if I don't step on the brakes, there is no high pitch sound.

10 days after travelling pass the "deep" water, which probably is probably < 1 ft deep, I still have the high pitch grinning sound (sounds like high pitch farting) during the first few soft braking after cold start, after which it will disappear.

However, whenever I engage reverse gear, with brake applied and in motion, the rear right wheel also will emit high pitch sounds "eeeeee" (irregardless cold or hot start).

Based on the experience of the folks here, this highly likely has nothing to do with new rims? But rather "water go into brake" ?

Re: Question for E90 with Progressive ME

the cold start is rust formed on your rotors, normal.

the reverse gear one is also rather normal as the rotor doesnt usually travel in reverse, so the pads will make a noise

If it is annoying, get some brake grease applied to the back of the pads, there is an "anti squeal" shim there which often needs some grease

Re: Question for E90 with Progressive ME

yes. some ring hub were used during my installation. these particular wheel used to be designed exact fit to BMWs cos PDC120 but now Lexus car also used PCD120 for some series. RAYS had engineered universal fits. so different ring hub were used on different car on the same wheel design. in your case, I suggest you asked LS to take the rear apart and re-install it again. see the same issue stay.

I've never experience any you describe. I've mine ME for 9 long mths now.

Re: Question for E90 with Progressive ME

Thanks Phil. I am aware there are "normal" sound made by the brakes during cold start but this one I swear is different. It occurs after I changed rims AND travel in deep puddle of water, I think logically it is caused by either the rims or the water, but I don't know which. I went back to rims installer who says its not their problem, its the brake. I am trying to get facts before I get back to PML. Don't want them to be telling me, "its the rims, I am going to charge you $500". Just got "insulted" by some folks on why my 1 yr old car sounds like 10.

Re: Question for E90 with Progressive ME

I think now you have rims with more gap can easy see rotor, water got in and wash away the lube for the anti squeal.

Go see Rodney at UM2, he will fix easy for you

Thise folks that insulted you, easy comeback. You just put more efficient brake pads, they make a noise, but more safe for when i taxi YOUR fat ass around.

Re: Question for E90 with Progressive ME

I changed my brake pad recently front & rear @ PML service center. I did asked them why our brakes had such a short life span. the SCO tell me that our E9x car design with full brake assist, even you didn't applied brakes, the brake will applied on its own to dry up the pads if the car detects it driving condition in wet. which makes its high tear n wear if most of the time you drive in the rain.

Re: Question for E90 with Progressive ME

yes...u will need center ring... our modern BMW center hub is 72.4

the prog ME might be made for the older BMW (E39) which has 74.1 centre hub diameter

else if for the lexus...its PCD might be 5x120 but i think their centre hub is also 74.1
