Query on automatic door locking feature

Hi all,

I am curious and would want to find out whether E46 has the automatic door locking feature.

My previous car has the door locking feature - where all doors will automatically change to lock mode after you unlock it after sometime. This is to prevent accidently un-lock you car. The original door locking system does not come with any sound signal (no beep sound after you have activated the door lock) and you would not know whether it is in the lock mode..:-(

Thanks mate.

Re: Query on automatic door locking feature

Only when u drive above 15km/hr else it will not auto-lock.

Re: Query on automatic door locking feature

Thanks whicky Tango.

How about if I park my car at the car park (idle with engine off). I will not be informed if I accidently activated the door unlock. My previous car has this auto feature to lock all door after sometime (few mins). Probably security feature... to ensure that it is not un-intentionaly unlcok by the car owner)

Now I am with E46, and I need to check the car door everytime (especially at nite after I parked my car) aftre I park my car.
Thanks

Re: Query on automatic door locking feature

I was on the auto timer lock system when using the aftermarket alarm system called "black widow" on my E36. Since I got the E46, I couldnt be bothered to have tat system cos it did auto lock my keys inside. Very troublesome.

So I always tell myself to lock the car everytime until I became automatic too. Hahaha

Anyways, it personal preference on tis.

BMW dun have tis auto lock system unless there's its a new feature from them.

Cheers!

Re: Query on automatic door locking feature

Hi Whisky Tango,

Many thanks for the info.

I think it was sue to the aftermarket alarm system that was installed at my previous car. Yeah, now I am like you too. I always remind myself to lock the car everytime until I became automatic too. Sometime I have to go down to double "check" just to ensure I lock the car properly.

Re: Query on automatic door locking feature

lets say u park the car... turn it off, get out, close the door and walk without locking.. u mean it wun auto lock for u???... one there's a certain distance or time?.. i always thought got leh.. knn.. now i better double check... happen a couple of times.. whoa..

One way to overcome this is to get your CSA to program your indicator lights to bling each time you lock/unlock your car.

I am not sure if that really is a security feature, especially if you have the habit of leaving your kids in the car at the petrol stations while you are paying, or your puppy while you are buying lunch. Also tedious to ensure that the keys are always unplugged and carried along, although this is a must for fear of drive-away robberies. I have locked my keys in the trunk before.

Re: Query on automatic door locking feature

My Tucson has auto-lock function and seriously I dont fancy that at all but that only works if the door is unlocked first, never opened and then it locks itself after a few secs.

I find that from a longer perspective, having an auto-lock actually does more harm than good

My previous Toyota had that function too. Actually, it's quite alright cos if I didn't open the door and it auto-locks after a few seconds, I wouldn't have my keys inside the car mah..
