Pulse Generator for E46

Hi all,
I just sent my 318 for servicing at BMW and they replaced the "pulse generator for cam". They also replaced Qty 2 x "Magic Eye Battery". Can anyone help explain what these are for? BTW, the symptom which I complained about is fluctuating RPM.

Pulse generator is called camshaft sensor in other words. Its sends the position of the camshaft to the DME together with crankshaft sensor.

Your symptom of irregular RPM does play a part in this, as it could be sending wrong signals all the time.

Magic eye battery means maintenence free battery. There is no way you are charged Quantity two unless yours is a 750il.

I questioned the PML CSA on why FRU Qty is 2 and he said take out and put in so FRU is 2
