Problems with DSC???

Hi guys,
recently experienced some strange things on my car
was driving along ECP from the airport and the DSC (amber) warning came on with the Handbrake indicator (amber) too. I stopped, turned off the engine and start it again. The indications were gone, but they will come back shortly after i drive. Went to BMW ECP immediately, had a check and they told me it's ok.
Going to book an appt with them again.
Anyone knows what's going on??

Marc

Re: Problems with DSC???

that happen to me when my engine was abt to Stall... EML light, DSC and ( ! ) light on.. better get it check...

Re: Problems with DSC???

Stall??? My baby is only 14 mths old..impossible right? EML light was not on. And the indications don't came on everytime i drove. After the check, drove 4 times and it came on only once. Bizzarre......Engine sounds good, oil check and hydraulics check satis too.
I'm suspecting on the brakes. Does anyone knows how DSC works exactly? Do they have sensors on the condition of the brakes?

Re: Problems with DSC???

Have you modded your car in anyway? touched the ECU etc? Let me just say that a mis-matched AFR could trigger this as well. But if your ECU is a virgin, shouldnt be that too. maybe just drive reallly hard ball for one day..hee
Get PML to reset ALL your fault codes. Shouldn't be faulty brakes. Having said that, when those lights come on, you would have lost all your ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL. On wet roads, be careful.

Re: Problems with DSC???

I hv seen this problem before on one of the forumers' car but his handbrake indicator didnt come on. He made a few trips back to PML to get it sorted out in the end. So I guess this problem isnt new.

Anyway, don't wait. Get the car checked asap.

Re: Problems with DSC???

That's exactly what happened to me. EML, DSC and handbrake warning lights came on and engine lost power. Switching off "reset" lights and sometimes comes back again later. PML initially thought MAF sensor but later found that the idle valve was faulty. Had it changed and no problem after that.

Bring in and check, still under waranty so change till happy.

Re: Problems with DSC???

My babe is stock 100%. waiting for the warranty to expired before I mod it. I guess I will have it check soon. According to the manual, it means the DSC, ABS and traction control is not under regulatory requirements. If it's the case and my babe still under warranty, better get it change.....
Thanks pals...

Re: Problems with DSC???

Hi Marcong77,

E46 driver here from the Philippines, I had the same persistent problem (DSC & Handbrake Indicator lights both lit up in constant Amber) for over 2 months. Having a year of warranty left I had my car checked and all the faults resetted. After bringing my car for the same problems 5 times, I asked my service guy to do a thorough check on the systems connected to the DSC.

It turns out that the ECU Module of the DSC and the wheel sensors were all faulty. My dealer replaced everything and it turns out it was a US$1000 cost of parts and labor. Warranty indeed saves the day so just leave your car with your dealer until they solve the problem and do not rest until they make a permanent resolve with this problem.

Hope this helps and all the best bud!

Re: Problems with DSC???

Yes, I got same problem and the electronic module was replaced under warranty. everything is fine after that.

Re: Problems with DSC???

Thanks everyone for their valuable informations! Will get my baby checked soon.

Knowledge is Power!!!

Re: Problems with DSC???

Thanks guys for the info again. Car is running well again, sent to PML (Alexandra) yesterday morning, surprised by the efficiency, collected it at 5pm. Was serviced by this guy called Tan Kok Cheng. Found rear wheel sensor faulty, got it replaced, no charges, quick and easy.
Feels like a King on my babe again....

Re: Problems with DSC???

Haha :)

I'm sure after getting that issue solved its like getting your car brandnew from the dealer after such a potentially scary ordeal. Thank God for warranty.

had the exact same problem last week and went to PML Alexandra as soon as i could find time... was told that it's an intermittent failure of DSC and ABS which will go away when i restart the engine. decided to live with it until my servicing is due.

funny enough, my usual CSA was on MC so i was attended to by Tan Kok Cheng as well.

Re: Problems with DSC???

woops ! its my turn now.... DSC light and Handbrake light on dash some minutes after driving off.

Pardon me. A mismatched AFR will NOT trigger the DSC!!!!!!!

DSC takes input signals from:
1. ABS wheel-speed sensors
2, Steering angle sensor
3. Lateral-acceleration sensor
4. Rate-of-turn sensor
5. Brake-pressure sensor

Check those.

My 2 cents guess is probably the wheel speed sensor, that happens to most Porsche 993 up.

Re: Problems with DSC???

i think he was referring to the EML as shaaz mentioned that he had the EML lights come on in addition to DSC and the Brake warning indicators
