Problem with new speaker setup for e46 m3

I recently upgraded the stock HK system in my e46 m3 coupe (SMG). Since I didn’t want to change the look of the dash, I decided to keep the BMW Business head unit but replaced the speakers in the front doors (2 tweeters and 2 mid range), the 2 mid-range speakers in the back seat and installed to 2 subs in the shelf under the rear window. All the speakers are driven off a high power amp located in the boot.

I am happy with the sound the whole setup produces however sometimes when I change gears (SMG) the power seems to be cut to the speakers and I lose sound for a second or two. I initially thought that this might just be caused by the car being cold and the SMG system sucking the power however even once the car is fully warmed up this still occasionally happens.

Any ideas what the problem is here and how I can fix it? The loss of sound during/after a gear change doesn’t always happen, only during my favourite tunes!

hi.
just wondering, sound cut-off only on CD-changer?
how about tuner/radio? head-unit (CD?/MD?)?
fm what you wrote, seems like CD... hv u tried the tuner/radio?
trying to narrow down...

Re: Problem with new speaker setup for e46 m3

i've been driving with only my radio the last couple of days and there hasnt been any cutting out of the sound.... seems like this problem is related to the cd... any ideas?

Re: Problem with new speaker setup for e46 m3

thank goodness, the problem seems not so complicating after all. it shouldn be your power supply.

there you go... possibility down to 2 possible source of problem:
1. cd reader @ head unit
2. cd changer.
narrow down one @ a time and u'd know which to sort out/change :)

Thanks for the diagnosis.

Does this mean I either have to replace my head unit or cd changer?

Re: Problem with new speaker setup for e46 m3

if under warranty, go to pml then.else, can try going outside to repair.

if no more warranty, changer doesn cost much, just change it. (if the cutoff is only when u use changer).

if headunit, a little more expensive, so might as well consider buying your choiced headunit, or u can go try get it repaired at workshops outside.

hope abv helps to resolve soon.

actually bro, come to think of it, it MIGHT simply be some loose connection/wire harness if luck's on your side... ;) check these too when you visit the workshops.
