Hi,
I had the opportunity to test drive the 125i coupe and i was pleasantly suprised !
Plus points :
1. 125i has a 3.0 IL6 heart and NOT a 2.5 despite the badge
2. Exhaust and engine note was sweeett !
3. Torque was available from down low and abundent in the 2,300 to 4,000 rpm range
4. ride was comfy with the M suspension, more relaxing than the 130 hatch which was rather edgy and jarring at times.
5. Possibly good resale values in the long term
Minus points :
1. Engine is detuned from the 130i hatched 270bhp/2500 vs 315/2750
2. torque is also lower at 270/2500 to 315/2750
3. Rims too small, 4 mths long wait !
4. LOW OMV of just $43k which puts it in 320i category yet it retails at $151,800 compared to the lelong price of $122-126k for the 320
Overall verdict :
I rate the 125 coupe 8.5/10, and i would actually prefer it to the 135 coupe as its definitely has more than enough power for the chasis to cope. Better handling could possibly to achieved by upgrading thicker ARBs and with aftermarket coilovers.
I felt that a stock 320 still handles much better than the 125 coupe but without a doubt, the main attraction for the 125 coupe is its sweet 3.0 IL6 engine !
Qns :
IS this the new Efficient Dynamics engine ?
Are the 3.0 engines found in the coupe and hatch the same but running on different ECU maps ?
